I just found this project on Kickstarter that might be of interest for those who'd like mix open world gaming with stealth and survival, just like Day-Z, but with a humoristic approach. According to the devs, "Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a first-person game set in an open world. Your mission is to escape from the archipelago on which you have been stranded. That means surviving being hunted, looting abandoned buildings, and collecting up scattered fragments of a mysterious machine which should enable you to get home."

 

Key features are:

  • Procedural tools to generate, save, and explore your own landscapes.
  • Open-ended gameplay: choose how you want to play. Complete the game non-lethally, or use whatever you can find to bring down the tweedbot menace.
  • A Thief-style visibility-meter combined with our own foliage-based stealth system.
  • Unique generative soundtrack.
  • A disembodied sinister butler!
  • Pubs!
  • No DRM!
  • Varied loot including weapons, traps, booze, marmalade, tea, something that may or may not be bacon, and a dead rabbit.
  • Fires to cook that rabbit on. (And other things besides!)
  • Mac, Windows and Linux versions.
  • Strange lore and pipe-smoking moustache-wearing mechanical locals.

As far as I understood the basic idea is that the terrain is generated on game start, so if you would play it again the terrain would look different and also the positions of AI and so

Wait, Unity is a bad engine?

everytime i played Unity game there was a performance problems.Also Unity user has to code very basic things like player physics from scratch(player is not even able to walk on stairs by default)

Why didnt they used UDK ?

Unity is only good for a small Android and IOS games

Most likely because UDK aint available for Linux.

 

This sounds really cool, but when I heard Unity, I confused it with Unigin. We need a new cross-platform multiplayer game to play. Tremulous is dead and Urban Terror is losing popularity. This could be the next great game to suck away hours and hours of my life.

i remember playing Nosferatu : Wrath of Malachi back in my day.It was a good game,artstyle was good,gameplay was good,story was good (for an FPS game),but there was a 1 huge minus - castle,where the action is were generated on game start,insted of being handmade.It was fairly lame

only computer generated thing i would accept is vegetation placement and sounds(which is not yet being generated in games)

SH, the thing is, when you read the comments in the Kickstarter, those pledgers who live in the vicinity of the portrayed area admit that it looks very much like the real thing. I agree that procedurally generated environments can look crappy, but with the right spirit the "livelessness" can be overcome. A thing that many players seem to want is more and different vegetation, animals, sounds etc., to make the game even more life-like. Also, it seems that the game relies heavily on British humor, so it this is your thing, you'll overlook the bad parts (if there are any).

 

And yes, the Thief meter sold me too. ;)

i will not

Dishonored become much worse because developers gave players supernatural powers,though its clearly a spiritual successor of Thief and DX and a good game after all

Dishonored and Nosferate:VoM is an example of 1 bad thing ruining almost everything

Ah, damn, sorry, I was going to post that video myself. I'm still waiting for the video for another game called Maia, a kind of Dungeon Keeper god game. The dev says that he's currently busy to make a gameplay video, so I'm waiting until he finishes the video to create a separate thread.

 

 

Anyway, Sir is already in the green (aka. funded), with 173% of the necessary sum and still 1 days to go. By the way, it's just £1,000 to unlock the £70,000 tier: The Riders

These red-coated rider robots will be the most merciless - and the fastest - hunters in the archipelago. Once they have you sighted, well, run, Fox, run. We're asking a bit more for this thanks to the additional complexity of riding characters, and we're certain they'll make the most exciting addition to our NPC arsenal."

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
