Map crash, unless

Alright, so im working on a map, trying a bunch of new things like playing with sounds, particles etc.

Had dmap issues a while back when the game would freeze (and later on crash) after dmap, i was still able to play the map with only a aas error. went through the map and deleted all rain/splash textures, readable and most of the ai. wich seems to have solved that issue for now.

now on the other hand, i cant load the map without dmaping first (even though i dont edit the map what so ever)

Too explain

Dmap - Map - Play (works)

Dmap - Map - Play (works) - menu - restart game - map - Crash -

re-enter - Dmap - Map - Play (works)

Do you crash to desktop or to the main menue? If it's the latter can you please post the error message displayed in the console?

If you crash to desktop try the following. Delete the cm, proc and aas file for your map and than dmap again. Maybe that works.

If you upload the map somewhere and pm me the link I could take a look if you like me to.

Do you get a malloc error? Dmap is leaking memory, which could explain your problem. Doing the following will clear the problem if the issue is you running out of memory:

One thing to check is whether you have any spawnargs on your worldspawn (i.e. look at a brush in the entity inspector and see if any spawnargs are on there). I had an issue where I accidentally put a rotation spawnarg on my worldspawn which caused an error which sounds very similar to yours whenever I tried to place AI on the map. It went away after I erased the errant spawnargs.

But you should walk having internal dignity. Be a wonderful person who can dance pleasantly to the rhythm of the universe.

I've been seeing the same problem using SVN. dmap->map works fine, but map by itself crashes.

In my case, I don't think it's an 'available memory' issue, since I have 12GB. In any case, I would expect the dmap->map sequence to have more mem issues than a simple map, given that we already know dmap doesn't return used memory.

Are thare any triggers (like trigger_once_entityname with "entityname" set to "player1", or any other trigger_touch?) the player is standing in at map start, that target other entities?

Maybe it's an error with the engine itself. Don't know. I fairly doubt we'll get behind this soon. If you have snapshots or failsaves, you may start workingfrom them on and hope the error does not reoccur.

Sadly I'm fighting some tricky stuff in the amd64 porting of the game code - it works, but there's some trouble with the script side of things. Tracking it down is proving to be a pain and has eaten a few evenings :/ I really want to get all this stuff done before I look at other issues. Meeeeh :(

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
