Would you please make a replacement sound for 'sizzle'?

 

It should be an electric sparking sound. The scene in SATC that uses it has a wire that runs from a sparking electric light to a pool of water to set up an electrocution trap.

I'm testing In the North, and I have several small potbelly stoves whose doors open and close. For the closing sound, I'm using 'manhole_close_01'. The original D3 sound is a metallic bang. The replacement sound is drawn out metal scraping against metal with a clunk at the end, which is wrong for a fireplace door shutting, especially since the sound doesn't begin until the door is already closed. Granted, the new sound is better than the original sound wrt rotating and dropping a manhole cover into place, but we should be replacing sounds with new sounds that are similar, and that's not the case here.

 

We need a single bang! replacement for 'manhole_close_01'. The current really good manhole rotating and clunking sound should be added to the set with a new name, i.e. 'manhole_close_02'.

re manhole cover 01: Grabbed a 'metal door closing sound' off Freesound and tried to upload it three times to Soundcloud, but it keeps coming back with 'This sound is being processed' and not being available. post-9265-0-20990000-1368481164.gif

Still working on the sizzle noises. Found some good sounds that would require attribution last night, but didn't bookmark them and can't find them now. (post-9265-0-20990000-1368481164.gif x2.)

As ever, hope they're ballpark enough. To my ears, these sizzles are more 'electric' than the D3 originals. (I am referring to the right ones? - \sound\ambient\burning\1shot_sizzle_01-3. I get confused sometimes...)

I don't get this. I've searched everywhere for a soundshader that has "sound/stress/1shot_creaking_02" in it. I can't find one anywhere. Nothing called that, and nothing that actually calls that file. There IS a sound/stress/1shot_creaking_02.ogg in the D3 base folder, however, and I know exactly where it's called in the St. Lucia map. The speaker entity has "s_shader" "sound/stress/1shot_creaking_02.ogg"

 

So what's the deal here? There are no relevant soundshaders in the pk4 file.

 

Can "s_shader" point to a sound file that doesn't have a soundshader?

Just checked, and yes, they're the same sounds. Not sure what I was thinking - just saw it on the missing assets list and must have assumed I had uploaded them to Soundcloud but not got round to posting them here. Sorry for any confusion.

TBH, they don't sound much like the D3 originals (especially bubbles11-13) but I think they do sound like cooking pots boiling/simmering. Happy to work on getting something closer to the original if you want, just let me know; otherwise I'll assume they're OK. :smile:

 

Re sounds left to do - it looks like Flakebridge Monastery still needs some - ???

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
