The new Tombraider

I recently got the new Tombraider and it is really amazing. Might not be everyone's cup of tea though, since it is very heavily scripted. But it is just sooo tense and immersive and the action is just sick. You can't help but feel sorry for lara throughout the game, because so much shit goes down for her. The shooting parts are a little over the top sometimes, but must parts you can also be done with sneaking, which is nice and gains you some extra xp. Just check out a let's play of the beginning to see whether the game is something for you or not.

and it has a hub system that allows you to back to certain previous parts to get weapon upgrade parts you may have missed. And a day and night cycle, as its a lot easyer to find loot when you go back to a previous hub in the day time and not at night. although the weapons for the combat elements have been made simple, the bow always shoots its arrow in a straight line and ignores gravity. there's no heath packs she recovers health when out of combat. Its obviously made for the xbox because the hubs are so small, it uses a lot of up and down movement through that space to make the hubs look bigger than they are, and an extensive use of skyboxes to make it look huge in some parts (although am playing on the pc version which was made by a different company than the one that made the console version, they use the original assets, but crystal dynamics use a company called nixxes to write the pc code). Although they've hidden load zones behind cutscene's so you dont notice as much, it just says TR in the bottom righthand corner when the game saves and loads new bits.

I always loved TR on the playstation, but I tried a more recent one on the keyboard and wasn't digging it.

I think one of these days I need to get a controller, kick back and try some games. (I bought an Prince of Persia (liked the first on console) but never played past the first part for the same reason)

Dark is the sway that mows like a harvest

Haha, I always felt the exact opposite way about the TR games. The old ones had realy inprecise crapy controls so that I wasn't able to enjoy them really. The new generation TR games however had these precise wasd-mouse-controls, which really made them enjoyable for me. I tried to play them once with an xbox 360 controller but reverted back to keyboard after a short period of time. As soon as aiming is involved, I vastly prefer mouse over gamepad. Hack and slay games etc. are suited better for the gamepad.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
