Dishonoured: late to the party

Just bought this today (found a gift card I'd forgotten about)...

I will just say this, like others I have come to the conclusion this game is Thief by another name. The guards grumble like they do in T1/2/3, its awesome. Its weird as well, it like I'm stuck in some Bioshock/Thief neither world, which in itself its brilliant.

And with regard to steam/origin/other I know I am going to have to succumb and accept it eventually, but it dosent mean I will be paying full retail for the games either. The upshot is as well as not paying full price (£15 will be the ceiling for any game regardless), I will be hopefully several months behind on the need to upgrade hardware as well. The amusing irony is the pubs/devs in trying to snuff out the s/h market are causing a knock on effect for hardware venders, so I wonder what if any the repercussions of that will be - I will get the popcorn out and enjoy the view.

I've just gotta get out-of-sync with game releases enough so I never go above my price ceiling etc. The irony (I cant think of the correct word in this context) on the h/w front is the gfx card I bought 5 months ago and the cpu a few months before have both gone up in price not down.

I got it for the same reason you did -- gift certificate I found I hadn't used.

I really liked it. I tried not to use the powers too much & stick to sneaking, and it turned out to be a good game for it. The architecture & level design was beautiful. I still prefer our own minimalist & realistic approach for things (HUD, objectives, how objects & AI look, etc), but the game itself was great fun.

Remember that our own Digital Nightfall made a level. He asked that people don't reveal which one till after they've played it, so they're focusing on the game & not him... But if you know he was an architecture student & loved Miesian architecture, then you have a shot at making a good guess.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Ah, good. I think Dishonored is a piece of work every TDM mapper should experience in order to gain more vision how to map.

Very good that Biker gets to learn from this masterpiece as as well. :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
