FM List By Type

demagogue

Recommended Posts

The TTLG mods PM'd me wanting to add TDM FMs to their list of "FM by type" thread.

I don't have time, but will anyone volunteer to make a list of which categories TDM FMs fall into (e.g., City, Forest, Church, Undead, etc...)? This is a cool thing any fan can do.

You can see the categories in that thread. It would help get more people over there playing our FMs, and it occurred to me, it'd be a great list for us to have for ourselves too. If someone does want to do it, you could just post it in this thread, I'll shoot it over to TTLG, and we can find a place for it like on the wiki or something like that.

Edit: Update, if a FM is in multiple categories, they're asking to put the primary one in first place, as that's where it will get put for now (and not the other ones, until possibly later).

Edit2: For quick reference, here are the categories in the TTLG thread we should use for their purposes. (After that we can have our own list however we like if we put something up on the wiki.)

Bank Jobs, Castle Missions/Fortress, Church/Cathedral, City Missions, Daylight Missions, Hammerite (I told them to put "TDM (Builder)" for our additions to this category), Horror FMs, Jail/Prison Missions, Lost Civilizations, Mansion/Estate FMs, Museum Missions, Pagan/Outdoor Missions,Pirate Missions, Sewer, Spiders, Swamp, Thieves Highway/Rooftop Missions, Tombs, Catacombs & Crypts, Undead or Zombies, Warehouse Missions, Seasonal/Holiday FMs (specify the season), Most often recommended/Must play (we should hand over the most recommended TDM FM list), Most absorbing/Keep Busy FMs, Hardest FMs, Small/Short FMs, Phobic FMs, (FMs in which the phobia (heights, spiders, undead) plays a significant role.), Series/Multi Mission, Contests,

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Update (also added to the OP), if a FM is in multiple categories, they're asking to put the primary one in first place, as that's where it will get put for now (and not the other ones, until possibly later).

Also you can

Add

Patently Dangerous: City

Trapped and VFAT1 are both prison missions

VFAT1 is a Prison Break and City FM. The city section is just as big as the City watch area so its a mission of two halfs.

Sleeping Thieves has a bit of everything in it. But to keep things simple I would just label it as a City / Undead FM.

Sorry Biker, but as I recall Closemouthed Shadows takes place almost entirely indoors so I don't

think most players would consider it a City mission. It probably is best categorized as Manor\Estate.

I think Deceptive Shadows counts as a Church\Cathedral mission?

Heart of Lone Salvation is a City Mission and Manor\Estate mission

Crown of Penitence is a Manor\Estate mission

The Parcel is also a Manor\Estate mission

I think The Parcel is best described as seasonal since it's like a Christmas mission.

After this list by mission is done we should condense each mission to one genre (bolded) and make a final list by category (and separately by campaign/contest).

illusionist tower = implied horror, and maze you cannot escape from.

house in blackbog hollow = mild horror, and time line altering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
if you ever got round to adding 'lord dufford' to the list then is a castle/large mansion map.
Assassinations could definately be their own genre, though. There are already three (S&D, LQD and Thieves!) missions and I think there is interest for more.
The reason is, that assassinations are more versatile than average ordinary mission. Assassinations requires tool use and forces the player to indulge themselves in gameplay decisions like assassination method and corpse hiding.
I wouldn't call Sneak and Destroy an assasination mission neither I would LQD. The latter is a haunted mission to me, a bit special though, but not what I would understand as assasination. Sneak and Destroy is similar, you don't haveto hide the corpse neither have you to think about how to kill your target. It's also not a city mission IMHO. I would say it's some sort of mansion like mission, although this doesn't fit a houndret percent either.
The problem is that TTLG decided on these rather arbitrary categories and now we have to sorta pigeon hole missions into them. A missions play style and locale do not necessarily coincide. Roughly, yes, these are the themes that mission builders gravitate towards but make no mistake you'll rarely find a TDM or Thief mission that really fits just one of these criteria. The endeavor is more of an homage to their Byzantine culture than any logical categorization. Still, it's cool to see TDM FM's broken down the TTLG way just for comparisons sake. It's also cool that there are enough missions to make categorization a reasonable pursuit :)
This is also a small practical way to get more of what should be part of our core base actually playing FMs.
Also, when 2.0 rolls around, it'll be nice not only to have a recommended FM list, but for TTLG people to have that thread & we can have a wiki page on the categories so people feel a little more comfortable thinking about what FMs to play and they can find the kind they want.
      I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
      I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
      I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
