Which most sacred beliefs? Would they be ...

You shall not murder

You shall not steal

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour

Naw, they're

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

Moral dissonance, helluva drug.

Drug? I wouldn't know. Think you assume too much. Perhaps you were out murdering and stealing. I however was having great adventures. Never killing someone that didn't deserve it. Never taking something that belonged to the innocent. And never for selfish purposes since money has no hold on me. You see, i always play my own game, even if the mission objectives state that i have to do such and such.

Oh we're going to play that game are we? You were still stealing, and still murdering. You cannot put enough makeup on a pig to stop it being a pig. The only game you're playing is in your head, to make what you're doing palatable, acceptable.

It's all a matter of perspective. One cannot steal from a thief if one wants to retrieve what was stolen. And one cannot murder a murderer if one wants seeks justice. Look up the difference between murdering and killing.

Of course i always like the missions more that have some noble goal like preventing such and such disaster from happening or retrieving a lost artifact etc.

But yes, if this game was not a game but reality, indeed i could not be a part of it since then i would be deceiving myself. But as it now, it's still only a game.

Wait, *I* need to look up the difference between murdering and killing, even though both are blatant violations of that commandment? Violating those three commandments is ok if it's in a game, but someone violating another commandment on a forum for a game is not ok? Got any other cute little hypocrisies and dissonances you'd like to share with us? Maybe you need to go and look up the Stanford Prison Experiment and/or the Milgram Experiment.

Can you guys PLEASE take a step back and see where the other person is coming from? And I mean EVERYONE.

For one the name of Jesus Christ carries a lot of weight and he finds using it in the manner above is offensive. Just like most of us would find posting pornography on this forum offensive. Just because you cannot understand how such a trivial thing (in your eyes) could upset someone, doesn't mean you should tell him he is wrong for believing what he does. Different people have different values.

For the other, he feels free speech is more important, whether or not that hurts someones feelings. Again, different people have different values.

Part of communicating is accepting that the person you're communicating with might disagree with you on the importance of some things. For Grubber, that means trying to accept that other people do not put the same weight in the name. For everyone else, that means you could be a little more indulgent and try to avoid using the name Jesus Christ around Grubber as it means a lot to him.

The most important thing, however, is to stop being so damn hostile. Every time someone disagrees with someone else on this forum, people start bitching and jumping down eachother's throats. That's no way to talk to people.

You can call me Phi, Numbers, Digits, Ratio, 16, 1618, or whatever really, as long as it's not Phil.

@Grubber, I think you and other people are blowing things out of proportion.

This forum is by far and a way one of the best and friendliest forums around. Yes some of us use colourful language but, we don't tolerate the kind of crap (eg. trolling and other such BS) you see openly on the likes of the ttlg forums for example.

Thats why i told you to look it up, so you would not make such a beginner mistake. Its fine if you think i'm a big hypocrite or something. But try to get your

facts straight. The commandment is (properly translated and looked at in context): don't murder, as in don't kill/slay/murder your neighbor. Righteous killing on the other hand is different. Has something to do with justice after all. There are still governments doing exactly that. Killing the murderers and rapists.

Violating those three commandments is ok if it's in a game, but someone violating another commandment on a forum for a game is not ok?

You find it ok to steal in a game? And in real-life also? Or not in real life but only in a game? How does your moral code work? But i guess you are not a hypocrite like me eh?

If i were creating an fm i was not going to let the main character be a thief. More of a keeper/builder guy.

Thats the roles that i prefer. We cannot always choose though.

From my perspective it's just a bridge too far. I'm sure you are right on the rest of what you say, forum seems friendly enough most of the time. Good cooperation on fm projects etc.

If someone wants to adopt a philosophy where certain words are forbidden, that's their right. But they don't get to tell the rest of the forum that everyone must follow the same rules they've chosen to adopt. That would be like me choosing to give up alcohol, and then berating people on the forum for daring to talk about drinking.

Yep, it's not my forum, not my rules.

I used to know a vegetarian like that. They were fun at parties.

Some people haunting this thread are very keen on being persecuted by the community, even though no persecution existed until very recently when they've started acting like Shia LaBeouf.

The beam in thine own eye, and all that...

Anyway, anyone realize that Thiaf isPac-Man in 1st-Person 3D? You go through the maze and frob all the shiny dots scattered liberally everywhere, avoid the AIs, maybe eat a power-pill flower then attack without a worry within in a short window...

You're doing it wrong :P You should have "Focus" disabled in the difficulty settings. I haven't used it and haven't missed it.

So many times now I have killed every damn Ai around me because they keep repeating the same fucking lines over and over and over again, but then to maintain the no-kill moral code I do a quick load.

Not only do they repeat the same line over again, there are a lot of mixing problems...and the propagation is all screwed up...I'm kind of shocked at how bad this is, especially for a so called "Thief" game.

Currently playing chapter 5, I'm in banquet room of the manor and jesus fucking christ, bugs apenty...

  1. the level mapper/s didnt even bother thier collective arse's to match the moonlight projections to the fucking window pattern. HTF was this not picked up in beta testing in a commercial game FFS.

  2. the chandeliers are flicking yet there is no particle effect.

  3. and moonlight projections are coming from every direction including which way to moon is shining like.

I also noticed that torchlight sometimes goes through walls.

ok so i beat t4h thi4f gam4, no knockouts, no kills, no focus, and some other restrictions. the ending was... i dont even know. but yeah, theres a final bossfight. doesn't really seem to be a resolution at the end, but at the same time you could take it or leave it without a sequel (thank god). i dunno. having beaten all the thief games now, i find myself questioning "which thief will i replay next". It's kind of a tossup between tma and tds. i really can't see myself replaying thiaf again unless theres some drastic improvements to some of the game mechanics and the whole loot grind nonsense. also, rope arrows are a total crapshoot, and don't seem worth buying most of the time. I'd go as far as to say theres no reason to buy rope arrows except for completionist gameplay.

I kind of wonder if the game is more or less (enjoyably) playable with focus. I never touched it. Even though its a garbage mechanic, i wonder if the game itself is so much more garbage than focus, that using focus might actually improve the experience? that would be pretty sad.

For example, the objective indicator is a garbage mechanic. but the provided ingame map system and lack of compass are even MORE garbage. I found myself not even wanting to bother with the game at an early point if i couldn't get some sort of directional guidance that didn't suck, so i actually turned it on, and it improved the gameplay.

I keep hearing people saying this about the map/minimap in game, it is not shit, it is exactly what you see in game. They literally took the floor plans and put them in game. How is that shit? If anything it's too accurate.

And yes there IS a compass. On the minimap (press F1 to get it to open) there's a N that rotates with the player direction just like the compass in the original games. Use your god damn eyes and stop spreading FUD, there is enough shit with this game without people making up shit.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Well, I finished my Dishonored replay yesterday evening and it was almost as much fun as the last time (plus now I got to see the good ending - the first time, I got a little bit carried away killing all those people). Time well spent, crappy game avoided!

Now, for the DLC.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Yeah.. i'm aware of all of that. My conclusion: its shit. Pressing 'f1' to get to map is tolerable. having to navigate a main menu to the map option to screw around with the scale is not. You can see 1 piece of the map because its zoomed in too far by default. also if your mouse scrolls over anything selectable in the main menu, the map overlay is gone. and now you have to select the map yourself, with the mouse. the compass is only available in the map screen, which is intolerable. using the objective indicators in game, and vaguely remembering what direction it was in is much more helpful than pressing f1, select map, now look at direction i'm facing, for EVERY time i want directional information. It should be available on the fly without a dumbass objective indicator.

basically, the problem is not with the lack of map/compass or the accuracy of the map/compass. Its the way the player interfaces with them. It IS shit.

No the compass is available in the map in the menu AND on the minimap.

However there should be a shortcut key to bring up the map.

And I agree with your last point, the compass should be available separately, but there is a compass.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Wait a minute here... are you guys saying that in NuThief, amidst all of the things they saved/discarded, and all the iptions included therein, there is *NO* permanently onscreen compass?!?! Are you sure its not just really small, and is circling the tiny NuGem?? :(

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
