Of course, once we learn of EM's ideas about "the Keepers", we may be sorry they ever used them.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Then in part 2 they can have the Keepers, "take Garrett in" from his lowly beginnings and raise him up to be the epic thief he became years ago. :o

Honestly, for me at least, if they have a good story I'll like the game. I don't like bad game mechanics but if the story is good I will enjoy the game. Like a first person book, the story is always the most important part of a game to me. Everything else I can reserve judgement on if the story can carry you.

This is one of the reasons I don't buy in to all the arguments and complaints either, about Thief 1 vs. 2 vs. 3 vs. reboot. Yes tools are nice particularly when you're used to them but one of the sure things in life is change.

Lets hope for a good story. Failing that, they've lost me.

Is there any news on who is doing the music?

I'm hoping for Eric Brosius to return. If he doesn't, I really doubt we'll see Thief reach the same heights as the first three entries.

It's not Eric Brosius.

Don't most games do the 'hands in front of you' thing now? The last two games I played were Bioshock and Dishonored. After a while I didn't really notice them. Yeah I would prefer it if there weren't any but if they are like in said games then I assume I'll get use to them too. Its got to be better than been forced in third view and third view alone.

Aren't the hands in front wielding weapons/magic in those games? Aren't they smaller and lower to the bottom of the screen and not touching the world when not frobbing anything?

Good point. In Thief they're always raised. It's a bit distracting, but not game breaking.

I knew it they will limit US to do things... they are taking important things from the thief series I'm not surprised anymore, however, one particular thing that call my attention is this: " (...) We didn’t want you to be the master thief (...)" winch lets me thing I was right Garret now is a simple amateur thief. A shame they are destroying him, Garret is my favorite character of Thief series and when someone destroys a potential character is bad news guys, we don't need to look just at Thief series others are taking the same route.

You're misunderstanding the quote, they said they took away free form jumping because they don't want the player to be a master thief who falls off of everything, which basically means they are taking away the responsibility of being a 'master' thief from the player and falsely empowering the player by not allowing them to make mistakes. Essentially, you are a master thief because the game forces you to be one, you don't get a choice about it apparently.

They're really obsessed with this 'master thief' nonsense. Yes, Garrett is a great Thief, but that doesn't mean he's a master acrobat. He should only be as skilled as the player controlling him.

It seems you've missed the quintessence of nowadays games. ;)

Hey there :),

but if they remove my experience to fall they are removing an action of freedom. If you take off this elements you are limiting the players experience. If the players experience a failure they should learn from it, and that's what makes freedom in games interesting. For playing with a good thief yes that's right we are being forced to play like one, but because some players want to be challenged to the point see consequences of their actions (example here jump).

When I said a 'master thief' I wasn't thinking him of being like AC but like what Garret was, not being seen, not need for killing anyone, doing his missions always in the shadows.

I thank you for this discuss New Horizon good response :).

I moved from Manjaro Linux (rolling release) to Linux Mint (LTS). One of the reasons was that I found the updates a bit too often and long. But now on Mint I get updates every day, although they're usually small updates.

I'd like to track my level design progress a bit more often now, so I'm using the feed in my profile here.
I've been working intensively on Springheel's YouTube course over the past few days. I'm currently up to lesson 8. There is so much information that needs to be processed and practiced.
I have started to create my own house. As I don't have the imagination to create a good floor plan, I grabbed a floor plan generator from Watabou and experimented with it. I chose a floor plan that I will modify slightly, but at least I now have an initial idea.
I used two guards as a measuring tape: The rooms are two guards high. It turned out that I can simply double the number of boxes in DarkRadiant in grid size 8 that are drawn in the floor plan.
I practiced the simplest things on the floor plan first. Drawing walls, cutting walls, inserting doors, cutting out frames, creating VisPortals, furnishing rooms.
I have had my first success in creating a book. Creating a book was easier than I thought. I have a few ideas with books. The level I'm creating will be more or less a chill level, just for me, where I'll try out a few things. I don't have an idea for my own mission yet. I want to start small first.
For the cellar, I wanted to have a second entrance, which should be on the outside. I'm fascinated by these basement doors from the USA, I think they're called Bilco basement doors. They are very unusual in Germany, but this type of access is sometimes used for deliveries to restaurants etc., where barrels can be rolled or lifted into the cellar.
I used two Hatch Doors, but they got completely disoriented after turning. I have since got them reasonably tamed. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable.
In the cellar today I experimented with a trap door that leads to a shaft system. The rooms aren't practically finished yet, but I want to continue working on the floor plan for now. I'll be starting on the upper floor very soon.

On a lighter note, thanks to my cat-like reflexes, my superior puzzle skills and my perfect memory, I was able to beat the remastered version of "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation" in a new superhuman record time of 23 h : 35 m, worship me!
