Springheel Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 So apparently, Basso communicates with Garrett by sending his talking Magpie up to Garrett's clock-tower home, presumably to give him new missions. Reman Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) Nu-Garrett's monologue makes him sound like the bastard child of (Nolan's) Batman and The Crow. I guess that's what's hip these days. No more antihero badassery. Edited August 19, 2013 by Reman Quote
SirGen Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) For this purpose they implemented qte-insta-kill, and it was damned, too. (For a good reason, IMHO). I don't think that such behaviour has anything to do with stealth gameplay, so I don't mind if the devs wouldn't give me the possibility to do this. But if you are after such things, I suggest playing AC I don't much care for the kind of stealth gameplay that the Assassin's Creed games offer. I am not the traditional Thief/Dark Mod player. Sometimes I really like being a Thief, and never be seen or even knockout anyone. But other times I like being an assassin of sorts; a predator. I don't always want to feel like prey as a Thief. There are combat and killing mechanics in the Thief Games and The Dark Mod. Sometimes I like to use them. Jumping over obstacles and killing an enemy falls within those mechanics. Thanks for the AC suggestion though It doesn't seem like "Garrett" will have a sword in "Thief" anyhow Edited August 19, 2013 by SirGen Quote
Springheel Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I like being an assassin sometimes too; but I don't want a game where I just push a button and the game takes over and does it for me. 3 Quote TDM Missions: A Score to Settle * A Reputation to Uphold * A New Job * A Matter of Hours Video Series: Springheel's Modules * Speedbuild Challenge * New Mappers Workshop * Building Traps
SirGen Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) I feel the same way Springheel. The point of my last post was to say how I want to be able to jump whenever I want; which would allow me to jump over obstacles and land with a stealth attack. I'm not sure how my post lead you to believe that I wanted Assassin's Creed-style insta-kills, but I do realize that I'm not always good at conveying my thoughts Edited August 20, 2013 by SirGen Quote
Springheel Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I didn't think that's what you were saying; but that's how Thief4 seems to be handling it. SirGen Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I didn't think that's what you were saying; but that's how Thief4 seems to be handling it. That's too bad. If The Dark Mod didn't exist, I think that I would be very angry and sad about how "Thief" is turning out. I'm only just a little bothered now Quote

Sakonosolo Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I did something similar in Life of the Party. At the part in this screenshot, I jumped over to the guy in the balcony and hit him with my blackjack before I touched the balcony. Don't have a video unfortunately. Thought it was pretty cool at the time. 2 Quote
Melan Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 That's pretty cool, you'll even get a separate ''knockout while airborne'' stat for it on your ending screen. Also, holy baloney, Life of the Party is blocky. I forgot how much, even though it already bothered me ten years ago. 1 Quote Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. SirGen Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I haven't been able to do the airborne knockout/kill properly in TDM just yet because it requires precision striking, but like Sakonosolo: I've done it a few times in the original two Thief games Quote

Springheel Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Beleg from TTLG got to see a new demo a few days ago: You will be pleased to hear that the floating hands were tweaked quite a bit and don't disturb the field of view at all IMHO I believe the door handle animations were tweaked, too, it looked more natural IIRC. A strong narrative seems to be one of the core elements of the new game, although I got the impression that the element of experiencing the story on your own might be less important than in the previous games (and in general this do-things-on-your-own vs. we-prepared-it-for-you conflict in all areas of the game). stumpy Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 I think there's a law in the french part of canada where jobs have to go to locals first, and you've got to give a really good reason why the job went to someone in the non french part of canada, or outside of canada. Quote
New Horizon Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 Yeah, I think that goes for anywhere in Canada. Local first and then seek outside employers. Stephen Russell and Dan Thron should have been the exception. Quote

New Horizon Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 I totally agree with hiring local first, have to look after your own...that's for sure, but man...the recasting of Garrett still burns. Quote
