What is The Dark Mod?

Good idea! Is there a reason the in-game videos are presented from a wide angle?

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Don't know why it exported in widescreen dimensions. Oh well, can't do much about it till tomorrow.

Very informative video Springheel. Nice presentation too, nice job.

Is Ungoliant 666 or 6666 as in the credits? I wasn't sure but it looked odd and I don't know him other than as Ungoliant.

I believe because they're YouTube account names, to cue people to look for those channels if they want to watch Darkmod playthroughs.

On the video, at first I was going to say the "TDM 2.0 Coming Fall 2013" part at the end might confuse them if they don't understand the difference between what's out now and what's standalone and what's 2.0 coming in Fall 2013, although you explained it pretty clearly, but for someone just hearing it the first time I still wouldn't underestimate the potential for confusion.

BUT, after thinking about it, I think the "Coming Fall 2013" message at the end is still better in the end because for some reason, for better or worse, an upcoming release of something builds buzz better than anything. So I think it's good now.

I could nitpick whether this or that feature was or wasn't given enough playtime, but overall I think it did just what it wanted to do; let people know this game is out there and enough details to get curious and want to find out more about it. Good work.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

W/in minutes of sharing it on Facebook, I had one engineering friend who never heard of TDM post that he's eager to try it and even help with beta testing 2.0 when the time comes.

<---feels like an idiot. Apologies, Springheel!

No, we don't have an official channel. Not sure I'd have time to maintain one, myself.

I actually based it on the questions of a newcomer to the FB group. He was asking some really basic questions like "how close is it to Thief?" and, "are there undead?" So I tried to tailor this video to those types of folks.

I also tried to hit all the areas where we're more like Thief than the new Thief. Swimmable water? check. Undead and magic? check. Hardcore stealth? check. Hammerites? pretty much.

(I'm re-exporting the video now to see if I can get a non-squished format...stay tuned.)

Transition/ cutting at your narration is noticeable, you don't need to erase white noise, but volume fade out could help (nitpicking just for future videos). Relighting torches was in TMA, but we can claim it as our invention :) .

Didn't want to spend a lot of time on this, so I'm sure there are a lot of rough edges.

I've heard about this but never saw it myself. Didn't it have to be scripted? Could they relight electric lights?

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
