TDM in 2D Nvidia surround

I am curious if there is currently a way to get TDM running on 3 monitors either 5760x1200 or bezel corrected.

I know there used to be a way to run Doom 3 like that with a doom3.x86 alternate file as poorly explained here.

Eyefinity / Surround Specific Solution & Issues

Hey guys ...

With a little direction from my buddy Racer_S ...

I have managed to fix the Aspect Ratio problem that you get when playing games with the Doom 3 engine ...

Actually it isn't the perfect aspect ratio for TH but it is close enough.

I don't know if they work in multiplayer as I have only used them with the single player games.

Set the game up for TripleHead as normal ... it is the same as for Widescreen but with TripleHead resolutions ...

IMPORTANT ... set the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 in the config file

No need to change the FOV as it is automatically corrected ...

All these games use a file called ... gamex86.dll it is different for each game ... so don't get them mixed up !

Make a back up of the respective gamex86.dll file then replace the original with my version in these rar files here ...

Doom 3 ........................................... http://wsgfmedia.com/uploads/paddywak/screenshots/doom3%20quake4%20prey/...

How to fix "The Dark Mod" ...

1) Extract all files (binary.conf & gamex86.dll) from tdm_game01.pk4

2) hack gamex86.dll (Float 9 -> 4 ... four occurrences)

3) create a NEW tdm_game01.pk4 that includes the hacked dll and the original binary.conf

- just use 7zip to create new archive with .zip compression

4) replace the existing (old) pk4 with your new one

5) fix up your DoomConfig.cfg

eg.

seta r_customHeight "1050"

seta r_customWidth "5040"

seta r_fullscreen "1"

seta r_mode "-1"

5) Presto

Having a modified gamex86.dll in the root dir of "The Dark Mod" DOES NOT WORK ... it is ignored!!!!!

The last line of that post isn't particularly encouraging and I've messed about with this fix and hex edit to make the suggested changes but haven't had any luck.

Is anyone running the game in surround/eyefinity?

Anyone know how to accomplish this?

Is support for this going to be included in 2.0?

Ahhh forum search... I honestly didn't think it was as simple as all that.

It works fine except the aspect ratio choices. I've tried both 1 and 2 and 2 appears to stretch everything less however the HUD and rendered screen is still painfully stretched. Maybe I can coax Hayden over at the WSGF forums in to making a memory hack for his Flawless Widescreen fix that will alleviate these issues.

If only there were 2 more aspect ratio options, 4.8 and 5.3 for 1200 and 1080 respectively.

He may be willing to help after seeing the new Thief and realizing the influx of players to TDM; we'll see.

So I briefly talked to HaYDeN from WSGF this morning and he mentioned that Thief was one of his favorite series of all time and asked if he could get access to the SVN (1.08 is freely available) for the game so he could implement proper support instead of a memory hack.

Wouldn't this be something we'd like to have in 2.0 release going forward, support for Eyefinity and Surround with menu options?

Is there a way Hayden can get access to the 2.0 SVN or does any of the current development team take issue with that?

I'm just asking because I would love to play in Surround with a proper centered HUD. It would be excellent.

It would be close to perfect in 4k res on one display. I can`t stand the bedazzles so I got One 120 Hz 1080p Display and stuck with it. Of cause I`m using two displays but only one when gaming ...MMMMM. Post some more vids But zoom or focus on just the displays when recording, I don`t want to see you playing the game If I cant Play it Grrrrrr.

Very Cool..... I think it appears better in portrait mode (thinner bezels) and better view Range IMHO.

After a while my mind has become accustomed to the bezels and I don't really even see them or pay any attention to them anymore.

With that being said though, these look pretty sweet and I'm sure similar monitors will be emerging in the future, hopefully in the 1920x1200 or QHD varieties.

The unwritten question here: who will be the first to TDM at 11520x2160?

Jaxa how many eyes does one need to see that far\much? You`d have to be 50 feet away but I would if I could afford tripple 2160p displays and they could take at least 60Hz input signal and of course the quad sli\crossfire setup required could be kept cool enough:) hahaha.

I look forward to seeing a video of this sooner or later it`s going to happen i think, just a matter of time.

I stood in front of a 4K TV yesterday and I was impressed (it was playing some Sony content to show off the capability). The way I see it, if a display is close to your face then you want a superior resolution. So computer monitors, tablets, Oculus Rift, etc. need 4K more than a TV does, unless the TV is absolutely gigantic.

I've never owned or used a 3 monitor set up, and from the videos or multi-monitor setups I've seen, I've been bothered by the bezels. If you don't see them anymore, I guess your brain is filtering them out after a while, which is pretty neat. But I'll stick to single screen / widescreen. Can't wait for cheap 4K displays and standard high-resolution laptops though.

Did you mean post my config?

My system:

Win 8

GTX670 w/314.22 driver

3x 1680*1050 (5040*1050 w/bezel correction)

My darkmod.config:

seta r_mode "-1"

seta r_aspectRatio "1"

seta r_customWidth "5040"

seta r_customHeight "1050"

set com_videoram "2048"

set com_allowConsole "1"

If we get this working, I have to update the WSGF article for the Darkmod. Posted over on the WSGF forum asking if anyone else has got it working on an nVidia based setup and then I saw a link to our wiki article

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
