  1. 1. Do you play FMs on the hardest setting?

    • Always! I'm hardcore! Grrr!
    • No. The hardest setting is usually too hard.

When I first started playing I picked easy until I became comfortable with how things worked and looked - light gem, crouching, aiming etc.. Once I figured out my style of play and what I personally wanted to accomplish (all the loot, no fighting -as I suck at it, etc.) I tried higher difficulty settings on different missions. I'm not a fan of goals changing with the higher difficulty settings as I like to experience the whole mission and want the chance to do that without having to go hardcore. Setting the goals as optional in the lower difficulties would seem to spread out the playability of a mission. And spiders should never be counted in the "no kills" objective. In my opinion. I voted no but not necessarily for the reason listed.

Are there any plans to fix the enemy attack animations? I discovered a little while back I had auto-parry on, and being a clear ninja lord of death, master of shadows, I turned it off, and got into combat. Wow. the swing from right to left and overhead look almost exactly the same, leading to a string of failures in the training mission that had me confused until I turned auto parry back on and worked it out. "That's an overhead, block overh.... I took damage? Ok there's another overhead... blocked it, that's odd. Here's another one, yup took damage again, wth?"

The attacks are similar, but if you look at them in DR animation viewer, it is evident that they are different. There is a clear distinct difference in the height of the hand when the AI does the overhead attack.

I last tried this out a few months back, before taking a sabbatical to Chernarus to live off beans, boiled water and former survivors, so my DR is somewhat out of date. I just recall trying it out in the combat area and getting my butt handed to me. In retrospect, turning god mode on would have probably been a good idea.

If by "plans" you mean has someone brought it up as a problem? Yes.

If you mean, has someone with the necessary skills/time offered to fix it? No.

I had a look and sadly that anim is not in Arcturus' excellent animation rig, and it is not possible to import it into there. Too bad. Minor adjustments to the hand would have been trivial.

Now it would require one to create new anim from scratch and that isn't just feasable.

Yes, Noisycricket made the current combat animations, and I was unable to get the original Maya files from him.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
