also is there much fps difference between running native and via wine..?

For me it's almost not noticeable.

(but then again, i have an old macbook pro mid 2009 and get used to run "new" games on low grapics and low fps,...)

What is the best way to measure the fps in the darkmod?

is there something like a "benchmark" mission?

I dont remember if i changed the default game-settings.

But with the settings i now use, I get the following measurements:

(Darkmod 2.01 on playonmac 4.42, wine 1.7.17, full screen on a "little" 640x480 game-resolution, trainingsmission)

location lowest fps-highest fps

main-room: 40-60

archery 15-30

melee: 12 - 30

ok.

It did the same measurement method in the native mac darkmod 2.0 and got almost the same measurements.

(sometimes i got more FPS in locations)

But running around the location and looking towards to object who creates lag, is not the way to measure the fps.

If i had a mission where the player automaticly fly by a large environment and logs the fps at points, then it should to the correct measure job.

My conclusion for now, its a good alternative for the missing build.

Evening

So I finally managed to get my hands on a cheap backplane board on ebay to fix my dead Mac Pro. Its been running for the last 48hrs doing light work etc and I've just run TechTool Pro and found no issues.

Im now installing TDM and will do a few benchmark runs and then either I can participate in testing for mac users etc or Greebo/Greyman/Orbweaver can use it for doing mac compiling.

For me at least, the PlayOnMac method does not work since the framerate is consistenly less than 10 fps. But my mac is late 2009, so quite old already. In fact, it turns 5 years old this month.

You can call me Phi, Numbers, Digits, Ratio, 16, 1618, or whatever really, as long as it's not Phil.

Sorry, totally missed this. It's a late 2009 iMac, so intel core 2 duo (3.06 Ghz), 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4670 (256 MB VRAM).

Similar to mine, but I am running an nvidia 8800GT with 512MB. Your lack of Vram may be a hindrance, have you tried the Perf Tweaks as poer the wiki. If they dont work then it seem the ATi driver perf issue with IDtech4 games extends to the mac. And if thats the case I have a spare Mac 8800GT and GT120 you might be interested in.

Well I currently have Windows 7 installed and just play TDM on that. Works like a charm using default settings. The issue is definitely with the extra layer between hardware and TDM that PlayOnMac is.

Well the fact that all macs are now intel based there is absolutly no reason not to use bootcamp and a cheap copy of Win Xp or Win7 home/student for playing tdm. Yes a fully free option or even a native version of TDM would be preferable of course.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
