Cool 2.0 moments

Was just watching a 2.0 LP of St. Lucia, and got a tickle from one of the new 2.0 features, where friendly or neutral AI now greet the player. When the LPer walked into the bar and looked at the drunk, the drunk turned and said, "Hello there," before taking a swig from his bottle. And when the LPer went into the building with the beggar who was squatting there, the beggar looked up and said, "I don't want any trouble." :)

Cool.

I need to work on giving the player a character type.

Then a mapper can have the player pretending to be a Lord, or a City Watch guard, or a Builder, and the player will receive the appropriate greetings from the AI.

Atm, the greeting is selected from the generic set.

That would be very nice, I would like to see missions where you play as a guard or a lord trying to stop a thief from breaking and entering or something like that.

Or maybe, what if when this is done we had a role-reversal level for Knighton Manor??

It could allow for some interesting infiltration missions, where you have to impersonate someone to get through a checkpoint, kinda like the first level of Hitman that I always managed to mess up somehow <_<

I'm not sure how this could be achieved without 3rd person or body awareness, or some silly indicator icon on the screen that tells you that you are dressed as someone else. Also, I'm fairly sure that the AI are simply not up to the task of behaving like a believable thief, as long as they don't jump, mantle, crouch, sneak, climb rope, stick to shadows, or anything like that.

You could open the infiltration with a quick camera fly-in showing a [person you are impersonating] standing where you begin, then do a teleport out of the ai, and teleport in of the player. Failure to remain concealed shouldn't require any kind of external "thing", as doing something wrong and people freaking out and calling the guards should be notice enough... maybe.

I saw two guards greeting each other appropriately in an early hallway in Requiem, superior to an inferior & reply. It was the first time I'd seen it work so well. It does add a nice touch.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Playing requiem last night, I heard the watch guard captain say "Stay out of my way" as he passed another AI, who replied with something like "As you say Sir". It came across as a very realistic encounter.

I haven't looked through all the AI improvements but the level of realism in the AI is noticeably better all round, so well done. I also for the first time heard a guard commenting on how nice my boots were after he killed me, nice touch. :-)

Actually this is the same encounter I saw that I mentioned in the post above yours too.

Yeah, the greetings are sounding pretty good now. I noticed while playing Dishonored how much more varied and more believable our AI greetings are than theirs.

You could...

simple try to keep in mind which "dress" you put on at last. ;)

I had just used a flash bomb on an AI. I was lining up an arrow shot, just a little too late. The flash wore off and he yelled at me and brung his sword back. I, at the same time, shot at his face. I happened to hit his eye. He yelled "AHH! My eye!", and was blinded, again, long enough for me to hit him with a second shot.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
