High end PC, training mission stops loading at 75%

Not a very good start. High End system with X-Fi, 5.1 surround, set to Game mode. Any mission refused to start untill i changed ingame Audio Setting to Stereo. But then: loading of the Training mission stops at about 75%, then it reverts me to previous screen with the text and the "Start this mission" at the bottom. Etc etc. I then launched a mission, the first in the (alphabetical) list (EDIT: Alberic's Curse). I crawled through the hole in the wall (next to the horses) came in the yard (with undead sleeping) and encountered a set of doorhandles floating in the garden. Is it supposed to be like that? Because it seems silly. Weirdness on this forum: while typing this message the Enter button has no effect? {System Specs: * Intel i7 2700K @ 4.8 Ghz * Zalman CPNS9900-A LED * Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z [bios 1004] * 16 GB Corsair Dominator GT CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 * Sapphire HD7970 crossfire * Dell U3010 @ 2560 x 1600 [DVI-D] * Corsair AX 1200W * WDC WD1002FAEX (x 3) * Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro [PCI-E] * Optiarc AD 5240S * Steelseries 7G * Razer Imperator 2012 * Steelseries SX * Coolermaster Stacker STC T01 * Logitech Z-5500 * Sennheiser HD598 * Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 *} What's with this forum??? Enter button doesn't do anything! Using Internet Explorer 10.

Do you have EAX enabled? Try turning if off if so, I've heard a few people saying it caused them a similar problem.

Same thing happened to me.

Installed in C:\darkmod and tears of st. Lucia ran fine but I had to disable eax to run the training mission. A shame as I love eax. The xfi titaniums are pretty glitchy with the drivers though (mine often uninstall for no reason, not recently though... fingers crossed it doesn't decide to happen next time I boot up, lol)

I have a Xfi titanium HD, q9550, p5q deluxe, 8gb ram, gtx 275 with 197.45 drivers, win 7 64.. Nothing brand spanking new.

Once we use OpenAL-soft, you can optionally try to use your drivers hardware acceleration, or just let it happen in software like everyone else.

I suggest the software method, because most of the Creative hardware no longer actually does the EAX/3D stuff on the card anymore, it's just wrapped in drivers anyway. So you might not see the overhead as easily, but its likely just as heavy. You also don't run into the annoying problems that you are hitting... because their drivers are very... crap.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
