Also.. what the fuck are they doing? they keep putting up this contest then pulling it down.. and all the details surrounding it are ambiguous.. Whoever handles marketing at EM should be fired because they constantly keep making mistakes (not just with this either)

They want users to create mods/levels with TDM editor? Will we be able to reap benefits from this to add cool stuff to TDM or will Square Enix own the mods? If people make missions, will TDM be able to host them so all can enjoy or will they be SE property? I hope that all quality work for this contest can be implemented to help expand TDM!

Good publicity.

I guess it's all too late in the day seeing as the comp is teetering on the edge of another announcement... But if TDM could infulence the competition to open it to entrants outside the US and folk under the age of 18 it'd be nice. Thief 4 might be 18 rated, but traditionally Thief has been 12+ hasn't it?

First two Thief games were rated mature. I can't remember TDS's rating.

Edit:

TDS is mature.

ESRB Mature is 17+ in USA.

I see TDS was rated 12+ for a foreign release. Perhaps the ratings are different depending on region.

Good publicity.

Thats the point. Why should SQeenix be interested in giving a free project a good publicity? Or let TDM expand more ?

I suspect there are connections from TDM to SE. This never has been made possible without asking somebody from TDM or vice versa.

And I dunno if it is a clever marketing-strategy from SE to use a free mod (editor) which is the moral "Thief" authority for

years. What would be the benefit of this? What will be the benefits for TDM? mmmhhhhh.......

hopefully SE is not up to bury the TDM, because a good mod like this is like a nail in their coffin.

TDm will remain . Thief4 will be forgotten at the end of 2014 when everybody can get it for peanuts as GOTY-edition from the "software-pyramid"

The TDM is part of their DISCLAIMER:

Looks like they accept a video of a mission for an entry, nothing about of how complete this mission is or what?

What excuse do we have not to sculpt, and sculpt, and sculpt, until the job is done?

This all makes no sense. If my english would be good enough, I would call them immediately and ask them if this is some hoax, joke or something like that.

And if not, if they are smoking a huge amount of astro turf.

No benefit for TDM, no usage for modding / making advertise for Square Eenix B)

I guess the proposition is that TDM gets some fresh interest and Eidos get to be seen playing nice with the traditional Thief community.

--edit--

oh, that and given that it's confirmed that Theif 4 won't have mission editing tools and that there's a strong modding community maybe it's a nice gesture to at least do something for those of us who play or make fan missions - even if it's a small thing that isn't an editor.

It's clearly not a hoax. As Spring said in another thread, it is being looked into behind the scenes. That's all that can be said for now.

I wonder what might be still 'going on behind the scenes', keeping in mind that the contest officially started already on february 17 ?

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
