We've endorsed the contest, promoted it on our site, and made ourselves available to answer questions, which is pretty much all we were asked to do.

 

I hope mappers in the US will still enter the contest...I know I would if I could. And it would be nice to have TDM represented when the finalists are revealed.

So they've announced the finalists?

 

The first one on the list is just some kid saying he thinks it would be pretty fun if you could play as Garrett in the first level of the new Tomb Raider. Seriously?

Says you can cast your vote on the 'right' but I don't see any such voting mechanism. I thought the winners were being decided by Square and Amazon.

This whole thing looks like a false flag operation. They want to show new players that nothing of value comes from the modding community

therefore why bother adding mod support... That's my take...

Originally Square and Amazon were going to pick the finalists and the community would get to vote on the winners. Then there was apparently a problem implementing that, so S&A were going to pick the winners. I encouraged John to try and keep community voting as part of the process, so maybe they were able to swing it after all (although I don't see a tab for it either).

 

Am I right in only seeing 5 finalists? Covering two categories?

 

Maybe the number of submissions was disappointing. Anyone from TDM submit anything?

Anyone from TDM submit anything?

 

I'm fairly sure Moonbo was submitting a trailer for A House of Locked Secrets made up of gameplay footage. Not sure if he went through with it in time since I haven't heard anything. In all seriousness though I have no idea what they think they're doing with that page. Surely having some awkward teen mumbling into a stock webcam/mic is a pretty terrible image for them? It makes it fairly clear they're scraping the barrel and that their competition was a flop.

I dont seen anythin on that page worth giving a flying s**t for, nothing playable of any kind, seriously WTF. It kinda makes me which I had finished the mission I had started for this but then gave up because (I AM NOT BASED IN THE US of A)

I did actually get my submission in on time, along with the earlier one for Requiem. Ah well :-).

 

Mind posting your submission videos for us here Moonbo? Would like to see them. Either they didn't get many submissions or they just picked some stuff randomly...because that 'if I could mod' video is horrid. I wish there had been some community reps to help choose the finalists.

It'll be a while before I get home from work, but I think I sent a link to Merry and I'm fine with her posting the submission for A House of Locked Secrets here (massive spoilers if you watch it obviously).

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
