Logitech G930 7.1 Surround Sound

Recommended Posts

I'm using the Logitech G930 7.1 Surround Sound headset and can't get the game to recognise it. When I click the Surround Sound setting I get this message:

"UNABLE TO LOCATE 3D AUDIO - SURROUND SPEAKERS NOT FOUND - MAKE SURE THE SPEAKER SETTINGS ARE CONFIGURED PROPERLY IN THE WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL"

A fix for this would be awesome.

The positioning of sound is good in TDM.

I mainly play it with a simple hifi-headphone & it works great, even without

surround, which is no guarantor for exact sound positioning.

Working EAX, or (upcoming) EFX in TDM would be more useful.

Switch the logitech to stereo mode.

Windows has to be set to 5.1 or 7.1 for the game to recognize it. This has to be done through either USB soundcard software or through your regular soundcard software with 3.5mm jacks (or whatever your connection).

Edit: Most sound cards will not go in to 5.1/7.1 mode unless you have 3 or 4 jacks plugged in. Some USB soundcards/headphones allow the headset to "fake it" using a virtual device that tells windows that its actually a 5.1/7.1 device.

It appears here are quite a few people having issues with the G930 headset and that there are software issues. Looks like there are some workarounds for it if you have ATI video card or onboard audio. Some people seem to have luck with disabling other audio devices they're not using, etc.

Also, have you tried this?

Hi ttg_Avenged,

I have a few suggestions that you can try to help troubleshoot the issue with your G930. If you already tried any of what I posted, just ignore them wink.gif .

Make sure you have an updated version of the Logitech Gaming Software. The latest version of LGS is 8.46.

-Make sure you have the surround sound enabled.

-The Dolby switch on the G930 should be pushed down.

-Launch the Logitech Gaming Software and test the surround sound to make sure it's working properly. Click "Experience Surround Sound" on the LGS interface (Refer to this link).

-You can also test the G930 in the Windows Control Panel. Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Playback tab. Right click the G930 and click "Configure Speakers". Click Test.

If the G930 seems to work fine in the software and in the Control Panel, the issue might be with the game or with teh game settings.

That is from this thread.

I have 5.1 speakers hooked up to my PC soundcard and I also have Headphones plugged in my soundcards headphone jack. If I change my output to my 5.1 speakers, this changes Windows to 5.1 output and in TDM I can set surround sound in the audio options.

If I switch my audio output in my audio panel to headphones, Windows changes to "Stereo" output and then in TDM the surround audio option is gone. Only Stereo is available.

TDM is auto detecting your audio configuration from your OS so the OS has to be set to surround for you to have that option.

Pardon my ignorance as I have personally tried to do this and as Biker noted, I guess Stereo is the only option at the present. I had always played with headphones and I wrongly assumed that TDM worked like most other games with autodetect.

I have found with my headset, using onboard Realtek 889 audio and dolby headphone, that the positional audio is good but I recently found a much better solution. I'm going to try the new Razer Software Surround (used to be $20 but now its a free download which works on any headphones) which is specifically for headphones and allows you to calibrate 7.1 channels over your stereo headphones using a virtual device and HRTF algorithms to adjust sound tones. Its not as good as a dedicated sound card but its pretty good.

Check this --->

Granted the BF3 gameplay isn't the best positional audio game to showcase because of all the ambient but you get the general idea.

EDIT: Linking this to the new thread if anyone is interested.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
