Going to try Darkradiant again - how to set up correctly?

Hi, it seems to me that most articles still refer to setting up darkradiant referring to the Doom3 folder. What is the correct way to now set this up so I don't accidentally use any of Doom's assets?

Since you don't need to install Doom 3 anymore, there is no chance of mistakenly using D3's assets. :) As for the correct way, just select the game type as doom3 and then set the path to the root of where darkmod is installed. So if you have darkmod installed to c:\games\darkmod then your path would be c:\games

I do believe that should do it.

Must admit I'm a bit unclear too on what all the DR parameters do, but try adding a mod base parameter as well specifying your TDM installation. So if you have TDM installed in E:\darkmod:

engine path -- E:\

mod base -- darkmod

NB you might have it set up right already. TDM standalone comes with some assets which look like doom3 assets and which are outside the darkmod/ folder tree (whether you're looking at entities, textures or whatever). Most of the stuff for TDM is inside the darkmod/ folder in those browsers, but there will be a bunch of other folders with a few things in each. Like the "Common" folder on the media tab. It's outside the darkmod folder but it has all of TDM's nodraw and caulk textures etc. There are some assets that look to me more like Doom3 than TDM (the Hell stuff?) although I never played or owned doom3 so I'm not sure.

Stuff like Hell assets may have been replaced to avoid breaking old missions that were built well before 2.0 was a possibility, and haven't been updated since. Though I find myself wondering about that, since it would have made sense to move the replacement stuff into the tdm section properly, not only trimming down the number of folders but putting said assets where they would otherwise belong (that said, I LOVE whoever finally organised the sounds in DR by group, thank you!)

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
