Low-poly models

Hi all

This project is just what I have beed looking for :-)

I have been hacking the Cube2 engine for some time, and have some expirience with C++ OpenGL and SDL.

My code might seam "unorthodox" (to put it nice) since I am self-taught, but I'm eager to learn and love to build stuff.

I can find my way in Blender and Gimp, and have made several lowpoly models for my project.

It'll most likely take me some time to get familiar with the project, but I hope to eventually contribute in some way. Untill then I hope you can use some of the models I have made: http://opengameart.org/users/sandsound

Welcome to forums!

Those models look pretty cool! (is that a mini scythe in the corner? :D)

Is that screenshot taken from within The Dark Mod or is that rendered using your own program?

Either way, good luck and look forward to seeing more of your work!

Welcome! Very useful skill you have there. Don't hesitate to ask for help with getting your models into the game if you find you want it. There are lots of helpful people around here and asking for advice will free up your time to concentrate on making cool stuff :-)

Welcome.

Do you have any normalmaps for your models? The link you posted seems to only link to diffusemaps.

Hi all

Thank you for the warm welcome.

@Goldwell:

The screenshots are just blender-renders, my project can be seen here www.moddb.com/mods/sabicube

and yes, that is supposed to be a scythe/sickle :-)

@Springheel:

I'll upload some updated versions of the alchemy-items later with normalmaps.

btw. I had a quick glance at the source-code, and I'm pleased to see that everything is well documented, it really is an awesome project :-)

Heh. Depends on where you look. Some areas are modestly documented, and some are a black box. :blink:

But after looking through the models included in TDM, I'm having a hard time finding anything to add, so I'm open for sugestions.

In my next FM i'm currently working on I will need a few custom models, I was going to try it myself but I really love your models so If you wanted I could write down a list and send it through to you?

I'd be happy to help, but it's hard to promise anything without knowing what you are looking for :-)

I'll send you a PM as i'd like to keep the items confidential until my FM release as some of these are spoilerish :)

I have uploaded normalmaps to the sickle and pouch:

It's hard to think of ideas from cold isn't it? I'll keep an eye out for "wish we had one of those" opportunities while mapping.

In the meantime though, your versions of existing junk would be great. Variety is probably more important than breaking new ground. At the moment, we have just one broken cart for example. It's useful for filling space, adding interest, and as a plausible excuse for playerclip, but there's only one so it's very recognisable and no-one would use it more than once or twice in a map. Ditto for several of the frequently used items. Some more bottles, blacksmiths' and carpenters' tools, braziers, torture instruments, and beer steins would all be welcome in my map.

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
