Email from mrD:

Hey Pak,

I'm terribly sorry for my unannounced and unexplained disappearance, I

guess I should've known better than that, since replying to your email

would take only a couple of minutes after all! Yeah I've been busy at

work but that's not all - about hm nearly 2 months or so ago I lost

every and each piece of hardware in my computer to a (what I assume

was) a high voltage blast from the power unit. It all went literally

up in smoke dragging 120gb of data with it, not to mention... well

everything else I had! I've used my gf's freebsd box for some time,

which as you can imagine, is hardly the perfect gaming/music

workstation. In the past month I've managed to scavenge spare parts

from work (I'm a sysadmin after all) and built a "new" workstation I

now use. I'm running a debian-based linux distro on it and have been

very happy with it. Neeldess to say, as of now I can't make much

music, mainly because I can't bring myself to learning the new apps

(there's a shitload of them, all open sourced, pretty neat!). So I

guess my contribution to the TDM is through now, I can't contribute

much except maybe testing the game on a linux system (I'm able to play

D3 without hassle) and make Spar happy  :)

I'm willing to send you the source Reason files for the stuff I've

contributed so far if you want them, since I burnt those on a cd in a

moment of clarity before disaster struck. Let me know if I can help in

some way with the limited set up I now have.

I hope you can relay the info to the gang as I can't seem to remember

my forum password.

Have a good day!

Jan aka mrD

I keep in touch with him though, and he'll probably drop by on IRC.

Saxmeister has been missing ever since he posted about his illness. Theo mailed me and said he's back working on the footsteps. So I hope to have an update there soon. As for myself, as some of you know, I've been incredibly busy with other things for the last months, but hopefully things will slow down eventually. We're more or less milestone ready anyway, so it's not that big a disaster. :)

Too bad. :( I hope Sax is not seriously ill. Posting it like this, that he didn't check back since he posted about his illness sounds a bit creepy, so I hope it's just the amount of work and nothing else.

Concerning milestone, how far along are you? Whats still missing?

Sounds for milestone:

- Objectives

- Loot

- Blackjack

- Bow

- Broadhead

- Footsteps: Marble, Wood, Stone

- Explosion

- Basic Voice set for the AI

SFX currently on CVS:

/tools/

- arrow_broadhead_wood1-4

- arrow_swoosh1-2

- blackjack_sheath

- blackjack_swing1-2

- blackjack_unsheath

- bow_draw

- bow_sheath

- bow_unsheath

- key_pickup

- mine_explode

- sword_sheath

- sword_unsheath

- tool_pickup

/world/

- body_collapse1-2

- element_fire_fireplace

- element_fire_torch

- frob_frobber_button1-2

- frob_instrument_harp1-3

- frob_instrument_musicbox

- frob_instrument_victrola

- frob_loot

- material_explosive_destroyed1-3

- material_glass_destroyed1-4

- material_wood_destroyed1-3

- material_wood_impact1-3

As you see when you say we need a "broadhead" sound, it's not quite that simple. Currently we have sounds for broadheads against wood, which will do for the milestone, but of course we will also add metal, stone, soft etc..

We have placeholder sounds for "objective", and "footsteps", which are not on CVS atm.

Hey guys!

Thanks for the concern but I am alive and well! Just, as everyone else seems to be, covered up in my "real life" job. I've popped on to the DarkMOD channel several times over the past two weeks to see if anyone was there but haven't been able to catch anyone at the right time. :(

I think next weekend I'll finally be able to get back to sound effects and music, so I'm really looking forward to that! I've missed being around the forums and am sorry for my absence.

@Sax : Yeah, glad to hear you're back in business and feeling better! :)

@Pak: About the "body crumpling to the ground" sound:

D3 supports sounds that happen whenever the joints of an Articulated Figure move. I'm not sure how realistic it would look if an AI fell to the ground and the ragdoll flops around in different ways, but the sound is always the same regardless of how long the ragdoll takes to fall, etc.

It might work better to record (or slice up that sound) into individual sounds for like joints bending, arms and legs scraping the ground, etc, then the final impact for when most of the AF hits the ground.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
