Early Thief 2014 Trailer with Stephen Russell VO

The whole trailer has such a different feel to the one they officially released. This trailer has better music and has a much more thief feel to it, it's really good.

I wonder if we will hear more of the original soundtrack at some point, it's just sitting in a vault somewhere.

Garrett still has his mechanical eye too.

So, it appears this definitely was more of a sequel than the mixed bag of hints and allusions that we finally got.

I really like the music too. Definitely has a nice Thief vibe, while clearly being different than the classic series.

I once read an interview which featured our very own Moonbo and when asked about thief (2014) he said in respect to the story that "you could tell that the plot had been cut and cobbled from earlier drafts" which I believe summarizes the situation perfectly.

The story was definitely a mixed bag of ideas, each could have been fantastic if their potential was reached but ah well no point in beating a dead horse.

There was a fan based version of the original trailer with So vocals added after and it was better than the above video - the music was not thief at all (Eric Brosius is the master when it come to this)

I think I liked this one about the same as the fan trailer. I wouldn't say this music was not Thief at all, it definitely has a Thief vibe or captures some essence of it...more than the final game did anyway, but yeah...it's definitely not a carbon copy. That's ok though.

The music was very thief style. It's not the same as Thief1/2 but the emotions it gives are on the same level. That feeling of sneaking around, exploring, getting into places you shouldn't be and the race of getting out before the guards catch you.

But art is so subjective so to each their own

Exactly.

Nothing wrong with his voice, he still sounds like Garrett.

Garrett, Sam Fisher.....both killed by the motion capture needs (But who needs motion capture so badly???) :(

The annoying part is that when companies give that as an excuse its complete bullshit. Maybe it would sound weird if the character in game was a large well built black man but it was voiced by Steve Buscemi you would notice but in most games it's not like that. For example Bioshock Infinite which had fantastic animations and very believable characters had different voice actors then the physical actors who did the motion capture scenes.

If they had used this trailer as a model for the game, then I think that it could have turned out far better. Probably not on par with the original trilogy, but people would look at the game fondly and without disdain. Stephen Russell sounds great as usual. Romano Orzari is a fine actor... but how could anyone at Eidos possibly think that Orzari's performance was better than Stephen Russell's? It's a shame, really. So much potential squandered.

The visuals are much more coherent in this one...it actually follows a narrative. The vocals are interesting though. Not quite the same Garrett as I'm used to.

Someone over on the Eidos forums said that when they met Stephen last year, he spoke to them in Garrett's voice and sounded pretty much like classic Garrett. I think the version we're hearing in this trailer was under the direction of EM.

lol, you mean the Eidos we will edit/delete/ban you if you have a different opinion site?

It is also very understandable that SR tried to sound different to fit their style. A few lines he says slip into old school Garrett but overall it does feel a bit forced I guess.

With lines like, "Night. My time." What DOESN'T sound forced? Russell seems like he's struggling to make to make these lines sound half way decent, which is an impossible task.

Just saw this on the Eidos forums. Looks like he recorded some stuff for a trailer at least. Nothing wrong with his voice, he still sounds like Garrett

That's about as close to the original Garrett as I've heard. (forced or not) Enjoyed watching that again. Thanks.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
