Authoring RoQ videos and defining their properties ?

Recommended Posts

I recall RoQ videos can be transparent and such, and can be used as textures in materials. Is there an explanation how to author RoQs with settings/parameters explained (setting transparency for example) and how to properly setup material to use RoQ in GUIs and world/model surfaces ? Thanks.

Just use blend modes like blend add

This is what i used to simulate caustics on a test map of mine.

video/caustics
{
nonsolid
noimpact
nodamage
noShadows
noSelfShadow
translucent
qer_editorimage textures/editor/video.tga
{
 name "Stage 1"
 blend add
 videomap loop video/caustics.roq
}
}

This works fine for black being transparent and white being visible, but to make other colors the key color i really don't know maybe try other blend modes on different textures and videos.

Translucent is one way to do it. Alphamasks are another. Note that you cannot really set a transparency level in idTech4 materials.

You only can choose between non-translucent (black background) and translucent (no background).
