Halloween Speedbuild 2 Contest 2014 Winners:

1st place: Briarwood Cathedral (author buck28) 76.44%

2nd place: Exhumed (authors Airship Ballet and Kyyrma) 75.80%

Calculations:

Total Points = (gameplay * 3) + (Appearance * 2) + (Story * 1)

Max Possible = Total Votes * 5 (Outstanding)

Category Score (%) = Category Points /Max Possible * 100

Total Score (%) = Total Points /Total Max Possible * 100

The vote count was equal in all categories for everyone so:

TotalMaxPointsPoss (TMP) = AllCategoryVotecount(ACV) * 30

Full Weighted Score (FWS) = (Gamescore*3 + Visualscore*2 + Storyscore) / TMP

Briarwood

Gameplay:

8x3 + 15x4 + 6x5 x3 = 342

24 + 60 + 30

Appearance

10x3 + 16x4 + 3x5 x2 = 218

30 + 64 + 15

Story

11x3 + 18x4 x1

33 + 72 = 105

TMP = 870

Total = 665

76.44%

Exhumed

Gameplay

7x3 + 18x4 + 2x5 x3 = 309

21 + 72 + 10

Appearance

11x3 + 14x4 + 2x5 x2 = 198

33 + 56 + 10

Story

8x3 + 12x4 + 7x5 x1

24 + 48 + 35 = 107

TMP = 810

Total = 614

75.80%

No offense buck28 but this result was a bit of a surprise with your mission up against the combined efforts of Airship Ballet

and Kyyrma. That said the real deciding factor were the 6 top votes for gameplay in Briarwood vs only 2 in Exhumed.

It'll be interesting to watch the votes after the contest and see how these fair over the years. Right now the sample data is so

low this might as well be a tie (but that could also be said of most of our contests, I guess).

HOLY COW! or should I say Burrick. I've never won anything in my life and I am really surprised. Thank you all who played and voted. I really appreciate it, and am honored. It was many hours, but worth every minute.

Just to be able to put contest "Winner" as a designation, is awesome.:)

Congratulations to buck28 for a winning entry rich in exploration and mysteries, and to Airship Ballet and Kyyrma for a horrific little gem! The community also wins two good missions! (...and hopefully a few more ones later on...)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

This may happen sooner than you think ;)

Also congratulations to all contestants for their awesome FMs!

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
