[SOLVED] DR still wants path to doom3?

Recommended Posts

Edit: The following was due to my not checking that TDM standalone had been added to the game list.

Whenever I run DR I get prompted for the game/mod path settings, which are already set. Textures and all assets work properly. But still DR opens the dialog to set the game path and then another dialog asking if it should correct those settings to point to a doom3 path. I tell it no and can work on maps with no path issues.

I though we were beyond this.

This is 2.0.1-1 x64 linux according to the 'about' dialog. From GIT yesterday. I had been running 2.0x and 1.8.1 (?) in Wine and didn't see that behavior, but previous linux native versions have done the same for me in the past.

The latest Git version includes a new .game file specifically for "The Dark Mod 2.0 Standalone", which does not require a Doom 3 base path. You should just be able to point it to your main darkmod installation, e.g. /usr/local/darkmod or wherever you installed it to.

Strange, because I installed DR just a few nights ago from GIT. I'll try deleting my ~/.darkradiant folder and configure DR from scratch.

Ah... I just re-read what you typed. And yes, TDM standalone is now listed.

Chalk this one up to user error. All is fine now. Thanks for the reminder. The last time I had checked in previous DR, there wasn't an option for the standalone game.

You could edit the title of the thread to include SOLVED, to remove any confusion it might otherwise cause.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
