Just curious.

I first heard about it on TTLG, when the idea was first proposed by Fingernail back in 2004.

Heh how strange.. I cant even remember how I discovered the mod, I know next month i've been here for two years which sort of blows my mind.

The first map I played which pulled me into the TDM universe to stay was Bikerdudes and Melans incredible Return To The City.

Another interesting point is even though i've been a massive fan of the thief series since the early 2000s I never got into TTLG until about a year ago and that was after getting into the dark mod so strangely the dark mod introduced me to the thief 2 fm scene.

YouTube videos. Although I'm not 100%. It's just something a Thief enthusiast finds hard to ignore.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

For me it was the publicity on 2.00's launch. It was a general tech blog, maybe ars technica or the register, nothing to do with games. I never read game forums or blogs. You've no idea how I kicked myself when I discovered TDM for not discovering it before!

I believe I first saw it either on Slashdot or Rage3D, then later I rediscovered it on Moddb when looking for

Doom 3 mods.

I first played St, Lucia and found it ran a little too slow on my Radeon 9500 then I came back a year later

with a 7300GT and found v1.0 with a bunch of missions had arrived.

I found it after finishing Thief 3 and learning that there was no other part planned. Sadly, I downloaded it then but actually never played it until recently. I looked at it again, because I was quite disappointed with the story of Thief 4. I liked the gameplay, but the story was meh, so I looked for other stelath games and remembereed TDM being buried on my hard drive. So I updated it, played one or two FMs and decided, that I wanted to make my own mission.

Same as Spring. I answered the call when Fingernail posted about it back in 2004. I sometimes forget that we had a beginner forum where all our first discussions took place. Don't remember the address for it at all.

I first played T1 and T2 back in 2002/3 or so, on my desktop at home. I was working away from home, using a laptop as my main computer, when TDS came out, but TDS didn't work on laptops then. Finally bought an "away from home" desktop in Dec 2004 that let me play D3 and TDS. Played most of the FMs for T1 & T2 after that. At some point, went looking for the "TDS successor" and found TDM. Whenever it was that I found it, TDM was far enough along that I was able to fire up DR and create a couple of connected rooms and get a guard to patrol around. Very impressive, but not enough there to spend much time on it.

Time passed ... got sick ... survived ... retired from work.

Rediscovered TDM in late 2009 and played all the Christmas contest missions. Got hooked. Joined the forums in Feb 2010 (been here 5 years!) and started working on Cleighmoor.

Wrt the poll ... I guess my answer would be "a web search".

I heard about it on the TTLG forums and immediately came over here and registered in 2006 and begged and whined my way into getting access.

Been here ever since. Thanks for all the wonderful memories.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

TTLG around 2007, particularly after Fidcal posted his impressions of the WIP mod. However, I couldn't get the Thief's Den demo to run, so it took until a few months before release that I actually played Saint Lucia.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I voted "from a gaming site". I did a google search if I recall correctly for some kind of thief mods or thief like games. It must have been something around 2007. First I saw some screenshots and then decided to try it out.

My first mission was the one where you search for a guy who slaughtered hookers (I think, don't remember the plot) and there was no gold to find and a big obstacle I didn't manage to solve, so I lost interest for some time.

I came back later when there were more classical FMs. Then I decided to try mapping but I never got far. In 2012 there was the beginners contest which forced me to focus on mapping again and I managed to do my first FM with the help of the beginners A-Z tutorial.

Wow I am babbling too much again, sorry!

I'd been keenly following it after seeing gameplay of it in the related videos for god-knows-what years and years ago, but only ever installed it after it went standalone.

I don´t remember exactly, but I either found out about it through TTLG/Eidos forums or just googled it somewhere.

I remember though I heard about it waay back, like in 2007, and saw the preview mission on Youtube (Blackheart Manor - it was never released, to my knowledge - if it was, please, send me a link, because I wanna play it soo badly!).

Since then I was "following" the project (loaded up the forum/page once per month or so) and when it was finally released back in 2009 I was playing the heck out of the first missions!

I still remember how laggy was Tears of St. Lucia 1.0 :)

Since then I played every single mission available (based on Dark WIki) and I am checking page/forum regularly (once in two/three days).

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
