Crashes on Loading/Freezes on Loading Screens

Hi, I've been waiting to try out TDM but I can't seem to run it, I've read the FAQ, the Installation process and even updated my TDS version, game runs fine on the menus, but whenever I start a mission, it either freezes on start up or crashes, as I've said before; I've read the FAQ and I don't think this is caused by my memory or my .dll being outdated. Would appreciate any help, thanks!
Oh, and if it helps, I've only updated the mod to 2.02 and my operating system is Windows XP. I can provide more details about my specifications if requested.
Here's the log:

Try making these changes to Darkmod.cfg:

seta com_videoRam "512" (or however much video RAM you have).
seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
seta image_useNormalCompression "2"
seta image_useAllFormats "1"
seta image_useCompression "1"
seta image_preload "1"
seta image_downSizeBump "1"
seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "256"

you're getting a malloc error, therefore running out of memory.

Oh, and I would upgrade to 2.03 as many missions will soon require assets from it.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

you got a malloc error,

you could add

seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
seta image_useNormalCompression "2"
seta image_useAllFormats "1"
seta image_useCompression "1"
seta image_preload "1"

to the darkmod.cfg file if they are not already there

then add

seta image_downSizeBump "1"seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "256"
seta image_downSize "1" seta com_videoRam "512" (or however much video RAM you have)

Tested and it won't work, unfortunately. Same error as always, Any other fixes?

I had a look at your log -

--------- Game Map Shutdown done -----
Shutting down sound hardware
idRenderSystemShutdown()
Shutting down OpenGL subsystem
...wglMakeCurrent( NULL, NULL ) success
...deleting GL context success
...releasing DC success
...destroying window
...restoring hardware gamma success
...shutting down QGL
...unloading OpenGL DLL
I18NLocal Shutdown.
------------ Game Shutdown -----------
ModelGenerator memory No LOD entries.
Shutdown event system
--------------------------------------
malloc failure for 134217736

This suggests 2 things -

  1. you need to update the gfx driver.
  2. and/or - your gfx card has a low amount of ram.

Have you run GPU-Z to see how much video ram your HD 5000 series has? and which HD5000 series card is it exactly..?

Looks like I don't need to do this anymore, I lowered the screen resolution and it seemed to have worked. Decent fps at times too! What bothers me is that it sometimes drop in brightly lit areas.. but it's still a wonder, nonetheless. Cheers!

Also, card is AMD Radeon HD 5450

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
