Is the following statement accurate?

You need to tell us your specs, CPU and graphics card, and we can tell you more. If you want to search for an answer yourself, then cross reference your specs to the thread where people with similar specs describe their performance issues.

Consider making sure the download is up to date. My download got corrupted and I got a consistent crash on startup.

I vaguely recall something about malloc out of memory errors causing crashes in the past? If there were, though, I think that would have to do with having less RAM, not CPU speed. But I really don't know what I'm talking about. Someone else with more expertise can hopefully answer more definitively.

Anyway, I used to try to play on a dirt slow Asus Eee laptop, and the game would stutter to a slide show and be basically unplayable, but I don't recall it crashing too much.

Incidentally, if you're using Intel 4000 integrated graphics, there were old reports of crashes for that, and reports to update your driver or turn off antialiasing. I have Intel 4000 HD integrated graphics and the updated driver worked for me anyway.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

A "weak" CPU/GPU will take longer to render each frame, equating to lower FPS, but won't mean that your game will crash to desktop.

That would be something else, like not enough memory or allocation error.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Regardless of what some sites say, increasing the size of your pagefile from what windows sets it at, can reduce the number of crashes and lag in specific games. cpu's specifically use the pagefile to move instructions around in windows, if it don't exist or its too small in size then you get a cpu bottleneck as it trys to put instruction directly into ram while trying to remove other instructions from ram.

That the weaker your CPU/GPU are, the more likey you'll get CTD during the game? The game freezes up on me a lot and I'm wondering is it my low-end laptop or the mod itself? Do others here get many CTD?

If the game actually freezes and crashes instead of just being slow, it's worth checking if your GPU/CPU doesn't overheat. The only time I actually got a bluescreen with TDM was when I ignored the dust building up for too long.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
