Seeing that there is a very noticeable taste difference in beer already after 15 minutes, I wanna see you guys chugging four 1L beers per hour at our meeting to prove me wrong!

Well, it appears to me as if the place is set as Erfurt (and surroundings) at the end of September. I have not checked, if anyone else has signed into the Doodle SeriousToni made, but the few that did, prefered the last two weekends in September. The "how to get there" would be the next step, but at least for us Germans that can also be done quite spontaneously.

Hm, I still think the area around cologne, bonn, koblenz would be better due to the cologne airport. Maybe we could do a list of people who could/want to attent and their locations, to see what the minimum travelling would be.

 

If it is near me, I can offer accomodation, and getting 3 people from/to the airport or train station.

 

If it is near Erfurt, I might be able to offer a lift for 3 people from the Cologne/Bonn area, but that depends a bit on the exact location and date.

 

Also, end of september might be a bit cold for camping, what are the options for people to stay? I guess that it must be overnight, since people travel quite a few hours.

A quick check at the Erfurt airport tells that it has only 3-6 flights a day that are mainly holiday destinations (Antalya, Las Palmas, etc.) Flights to London are Monday and Thursday evenings. No other important European destinations to Erfurt availble.

So indeed Cologne-Bonn may be the better airport for any non german guys.

They actually have two routes from and to Erfurt via Germania or via Vianova. It's just that there is no straight flight plan online for the end of septembre. The flight plan you posted is for the whole summer generally (and FROM Erfurt only) which displays a flight back to GB on monday via Germania. So to see which flights apply TO Erfurt and if there are some flights even for sunday, we had to wait a bit (or search at the London airport). If this is to risky / uncomfortable for the british guys I can understand that of course, but if we meet in cologne / bonn / koblenz I'm not sure if I can manage to get there. Maybe if someone from South Thuringia is traveling there too, we'll have to see.

 

So what are the actual locations we now have for traveling (I don't mean the airports, I mean the meeting locations)?

I would be travelling from Nürnberg. If the detour is not too big, I may be able to take you. But I am not 100% sure, if I can make and if can borrow a car. Lately my girlfriend seems to be not too excited that I want to travel through half of Germany to meet people, I don't really know. Especially because money is rather tight right now. But I will do my best

Thank you for the offer but I think this is no real option since I've had to try to come down to Nürnberg for 2 hours and then we travel to Köln 4 hours together

We could maybe meet in the middle but I think it is not necessary since I drive A4 and you come from the southern autobahn. Hmm.. What's with Obsttorte who comes from Leipzig (I think?) - he could maybe join at some location. I dunno.

 

Bah, so much organisation - we should better not get our heads too deep into optimization and focus more on the meeting itself which will be extremely awesome to meet some digital people we chat with every day, in RL with a thievery atmosphere for one time in our lifes

Especially if some girlfriend is trying to prevent such a transcendental experience which lasts only one (or two) days...

I was not expecting you to come to Nürnberg... I thought I could drive via Bad Hersfeld/Alsfeld instead of through Frankfurt, but if Obsttorte is acually driving from Leipzig this would make no sense. Anyway, I think you're right we should first decide the rest before losing ourselves in details (something I tend to do quite a lot, one reason I don't get forward with my WIP). I would also very much like to meet you guys. I prefer having a face/voice to imagine, when I am writing with someone. As I said: I will do my best, to convince her.

EDIT: btw tonight I just dreamed about the euro meet: bikerdude was visiting me here in my room and we both complained that no one comes to our meeting and that he doesn't know if the long way will pay off (funny thing is that he was already here)

I assume that's unlikely though since there are few Romanian players I know of, and I can't travel very far myself due to money and other restrictions.
