Alekhine's Gun - aka Death to Spies 3

Has anyone played this yet? I see steam has it on sale for 50% off, but some of the site reviews I've read are brutally awful. Strangely enough, the Steam review are closer to just average.

That's because it's average.

It's not great, not bad.

I would recommend any given game out of the Hitman trilogy and any of the other two Death to Spies games first, but the game is made of small, memorable aspects that will end up saving it into a memorable place.

If you're okay with a simplified Hitman game that has interesting levels, like killing several saboteurs on a USS Aircraft Carrier during the height of the cold war, all under the nose of the Navy within, you'll probably like this game.

This game and Snake Eater are the only damned things that scratch my itch for 1960's espionage.

I like to record difficult stealth games, and right now you wonderful people are the only ones delivering on that front.

Click here for the crappy channel where that happens.

Finally decided to give Death to Spies a shot, as I felt that itch for some espionage. Since this series isn't rated so well, I figured I'll start with part 2, the best rated one, to see if DTS is something for me at all. I am on mission 2. So far it's fun and I love the athmosphere. Feels really authentic when you put on an SS-uniform and then all of a sudden all soldiers shout their nazi-greetings at you.

Some of the "German"-signs are pretty funny, 'though. For example, there was one sign that reads "Achtung. Hohe Anstrengung", which is supposed to mean "warning, high voltage", but it actually translates to "Warning, highly strenuous effort". :D The correct german translation would be "Achtung, Hochspannung".

Those German language sign textures were actually changed to correct these mistakes in AHO's Unofficial German translation patch for MoT, which I adapted in the MoTmod Enhancement Addon.

"Let me guess - little blue men with three heads stole your sweetroll?"

Finished after 13 hours. Some missions felt really great, although they feel more like a loose collection of FMs rather than an actual story driven campaign. However, there were also a couple of missions, which were really badly designed and rather tedious, most notably the last one.

Still, I quite enjoyed the good missions, so I am now looking for more. I also own DTS 1. Alekhine's Gun is not available in Germany, however. 😞

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
