That burrick image would have been fine embedded in the post, at approximately the size of the text box you get to make your post with. I wish everyone would post their pictures like that. Most are, but when its just a link to a huge, huge file, not only does it take a long time to download, but it eats into my download cost. When I'm in a hurry at Uni, I can't afford to click links and download huge pictures.

If its embedded in the page, I can see it at a glance. Takes all of .34 seconds instead of 30.

Sketches don't need detailed quality, just enough to get the information across. We can see it has a scaley back, we can see the kind of mouth it has, etc. We don't need to see every single pencil stroke in detail.

Btw, when we're talking about pictures on a monitor, were talking in PIXELS, not DPI. You can talk in 72 dpi, but it just makes things confusing. If, when you resize your image to 72 dpi, it becomes 624x234 pixels, its going to be displayed at 624x234 pixels, regardless of your resolution. Higher resolution just makes it take up less space on your screen. The pixture is still displayed at 624x234 pixels.

And since the forum is designed to fit on an 800x600 screen, so should the pictures.

Who keeps their monitor at 800x600 these days?I would have thought 1024x768 was the norm, I have mine at 1280x1024, anything else now makes is seem like I'm looking at it through a telescope.

I think the burrick looks fine (do we really have to go through with this facade of calling everything by a slightly different name? - who do you think we're fooling))

What about animations though? A creature like this requires a special rig and animation set, something I've never done before. Do we have any animators?

This is a legal requirement. If we use the same names it could well be that we have a laywer at tha doorstep who wants to shut down the mod. Similar has already happened for the System Shock 2 conversion. They were forced to rename their project and remove all references to the original games. They said soemthing that it is a dishonour for the game or some crap like that.

Since we have no laywers here, we should be on the save side, if we don't use original names unless it is clear (like The City).

That's a fairly typical response :) Just ask the people who designed this forum, they will tell you that the statistics show that the majority of the people on the net have 800x600.

(The other main reason to design pages for 800x600 is that we can only realistically read so many words per line, before it gets hard/annoying to follow the text down the page, so the whole scaleability thing of the web is stopping at 800x600 these days.)

But for the purposes of this mod, I guess we can assume 1024x768.

I just don't want this to keep happening. Scrolling horozontally to read post text takes TOO long, and I have to paste the text into text pad so that it will wrap properly.

Nope, it doesn't. Trust me, I do this stuff all the time. Monitors are not designed to display more than 72 dpi.

Yes it does. Trust goldfishguy. Apple Macs traditionally used to default at 72dpi for screen resolution but anything up to (and sometimes beyond) 96dpi is common these days. Take a 17" screen. 800x600 (about 62dpi) is going to be a different resolution to 1280x1024 (about 96dpi). comprendez. good. But anyhow goldfish guy, Springheels right too. Ain't no one got a 300dpi monitor. Not many folks have a 300dpi printer for continuous tone images for that matter.

But yeah. Huge images on the internet is just rude. Post little pics if possible please. Or link to larger piccies if needs must.

Life is nice and cosy when you are young and healthy and with good eyes - like you and me. 800x600 on a 17" screen is good for anyone a bit far sighted or a bit over the hill though. Feel sorry for anyone checking the forums on a web enabled phone.... (something I do from time to time)

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
