Give Me Deus Ex

GMDX is a mod I've been following for a while, and they announced their release date recently. They will upload a bunch of videos in the follow up to the release. So far, they've uploaded 3 videos, and it's shaping up to be great. Let's hope it lives upto the expectations set.

Not tried GMDX v7 yet as I've been playing Revision but the changes to the AI in GMDX v8.0 look very impressive, I usually play DE in full stealth mode as much as possible and with the new AI behavior I think that strategy will be vital, guards throwing flares into dark areas, oh crap, RUN!

Countdown has begun!

This is great news to read,

Will GMDX be Steam-exclusive like Deus Ex: Revision?

No. GMDX can be used with any Windows-based version of Deus Ex patched to v1112fm (Deus Ex GOTY version has this patch by default). Linux can also run GMDX with WINE.

Where can I download GMDX once it is released?

A small detail, but there's a new animation for the greasel's jumping attack.

Also I think Bikerdude should see this. This is an overhaul that he will like, inspite of being disappointed with Revision. Especially since it focuses on an area Revision didn't focus on, and instead implemented another mod to do it (Human Renovation).

Considering GMDX is such a game changer I'm a bit confused why the devs can release it without steam but the Revision devs seem to have had no choice but steam because of Square Enix influence, or have I missed something?

I think it has to do with the fact that the Revision team decided to change the tunes in the game so they had to ask permission to the franchise holder and that's how Enix took control.

The reason seems to be this post:

Well John in the team had some previous connections with Square Enix and Eidos Montréal as he was community manager for one of their forums a while back. We started discussing a possible Steam release with some of his contacts and off it went icon_smile.gif We actually timed the release with the sale to somewhat lessen the blow for people that doesn't own the game on Steam.

Maybe, they did change the music, which is pretty good but I still prefer the original as there was nothing wrong with it

Well, I guess you can't blame the devs for taking the path of least resistance but I wonder how long before the release they decided on steam only?

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I've finally started playing DE (GOTY version) for the first time ever. I'll try this mod sometime but gonna play it straight first. Be interested if they tweak the AI cuz I've had several instances when enemies have been utterly, incredibly, unbelievably dumb.

Also several times when they've totally pwned me (I'm still adjusting to line-of-sight stealth) but I won't mention those. No.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
