Windows 10: Why you should NOT upgrade...

TBH, I've grown tired of this thread since the first post. I don't know what motivation and agenda people have to prevent people from using the OS of their choice. It's ridiculous, and defining for some people's attitude these days. And, when I have to read then that people should use Linux instead, I have to laugh hard. Because I have 8 years of experience running Ubuntu on several machines.

It's as if people need to invent dozens of alternative religions these days. And smite all non-believers.

Maybe I'm naive but I always associate Linux with WINE and virtual machines.  If someone "switches" to Linux as their grand-daddy OS, that doesn't mean they are giving up Windows, it just means they can shove Windows into the corner and use it how and when they want, in a confined environment.  After all, this is how Microsoft have been treating us, so why not us treat Windows the same way.

Dragging these companies through the mud in the press with bad PR is the best way for consumers to fight back. Sometimes it even works!

Additionally, they haven't a shred of respect for consumers, so we have the duty to treat them just the same.

I already converted mom to Linux. No, it's not a religious thing, I just don't feel like letting corporations fuck me sideways, and worse, being expected to personally help them do it!

Things of a religious nature tend to be unproven scientifically. Nobody can say for sure whether a god exists and is watching over us. We can, however, say for sure that these companies are just out to lie, cheat, and screw us over in as many ways as they can for another five cents, as the evidence is all around us.

Web browsers collecting the user's hardware IDs, is especially evil. That said, this behavior isn't unexpected. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Them: "Good luck clearing your web browsing history when we already collected it and associated it with the unique characteristics of the hardware in your computer!" (insert evil laughter here)

Much like with any self-respecting rapist, these big corporations do not take "NO" for an answer.

You WILL have Bing integrated into your start menu. We WILL collect any text strings you type in there. If you take steps to stop this behavior, then we will change the way the system works internally via updates so that your registry tweaks (which only exist to placate our large business customers) no longer disable said functionality.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
