Console Marketing Strikes Again

IMO their saying that the reason is that they care so much is just a PR move. The truth is probably more likely: they worked on the console version first and foremost, leaving the PC port as an afterthought, and then decided "screw it" when the time to develop the PC version finally rolled around. Probably didn't project enough sales to warrant the extra development time.

 

They neglected to mention that GR 3 will be released on consoles too, so they're basically saying they'd rather have people working on GR3 for both console (and again the PC afterthought port) rather than waste any manpower trying to release GR2 for PC.

You only play as one character for one, and you can't issue orders or form your own teams anymore.

 

Basically they turned it into a modern Call of Duty. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they should've made a whole new game instead of using the Ghost Recon name to do something else entirely.

So basically no squad tactics whatsoever anymore... that sucks

 

The only way I could personally do well in many of the situations in GR (without restarting the mission all the time :) ) was to use one team as a fire element and the other team as a manuever element and do the whole "bounding overwatch" thing. Guess I would have hated GR2 then if it took all that away.

The pessimistic view is that they don't care enough about the PC version to do it first, but GOOD PC versions are always more complex than their console versions, its just the nature of it.

 

It makes sense to me that they'd want to spend more time on it. And if they can earn more money by getting the cheap, console version out to the masses, well that's just a smart business move. More money should mean a better PC game.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
