System Shock Remastered gameplay video... if you haven't seen already

While it looks great & very modern, it's also a direct copy of the opening level of the first game, blocky brushes, texture styles, and all, and it's immediately recognizable. It's actually kind of cool how it mixes old and new design concepts.

The style of the original one still stands IMO. The one thing that really has to be catered to a modern player is the keyboard controls. If you ever play it, it's imperative that you install the mouse-movement mod.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

the news video also mentions that the same studio acquired the rights to system shock and they will be making system shock 3 sometime next year, or releasing system shock 3 next year, the news video is a bit hard to follow.

System Shock 3 is being made by Otherside Entertainment, not Night Dive.

I really hope they keep the original soundtrack, or at least remix it. The whole *brooding orchestra then BWAAAAAAAAH* thing has been done to death, and IMO it just wouldn't be the same.

Oh you mean

But really, it's hard to take the trailer very seriously because the levels in SS 1 were pretty large and the game had more of this kind of music:

Also, love the intro in SS1. Nothing won't ever replace that. SS2 absolutely changed the feel:

On PC it's almost impossible to play SS1, especially now but it was cool while it lasted I guess.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

By the way I downloaded strife it's got redone Graphics bloom high resolution all kinds of customized options for mapping the keyboard 3D acceleration through opengl. Needless to say I'm going to be playing it right now. I also picked up the Shadow Warrior redux which is the basically the same kind of facelift for that game with Modern Hardware support and effects. Shadow Warrior was only $0.99. Strife was $9.99. Those bastards it seems getting my money when I should be building levels for the dark mod. :-)

Sure, if by "almost impossible", you mean costs ten bucks.

Not what I played 5 years ago.

I didn't realize they were using the Unity Engine. From my experience testing games on this engine at work, I can't say I'm a huge fan of it. Seems every game that comes through on it is an unoptimized, buggy mess. I hope Night Dive fares better. Can't play it on my laptop sadly, it's a slide show. I'll have to try it on my desktop tonight.

Yeah it's a double edged sword. On the other hand, game devs are able to put out stuff that otherwise may've been impossible financially. On the other hand, Unity can be pretty terrible performance-wise, and linux support is pretty bad on top.

I'm hearing pretty rave reviews so far, not just by pre-alpha standards. I'll have to get this next time I'm in wifi territory.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
