hmm strangely or actually not so strange is that the 3070 runs games at <= 2fps in the pcie 2 slot compared to pcie 3.

so it might actually be possible to make a really low price gamer with these components.

it wont win any fps battles against the newer cards but as far as i could glean the 3070 is about the same speed as the 9060 xt. the 9060 xt has double the vram though.

i have a spare 750W seasonic PSU 32 gb kingston black ddr3 and a pcie riser for fitting an nvme in it (tested and works as it should with a samsung 1tb nvme). my 3070 is used in another machine though so i might actually go for the 9060 xt.

so i need the styx cabby plus a gfx card and perhaps a slim blueray burner (the styx has a slot for a slim drive) and some more ssd drives (1tb can fit a few games but with the sizes games have these days it will quickly become full).

also have a i7 4790k devils canyon cpu which has more muscle than the i5 it is fitted with currently.

damn ssd prices...

RX 9050 8 GB: 16 CUs, $279, limited to Asia-Pacific, Japan, Latin America. AsRock and Sapphire models spotted.

RX 9050 4 GB: 16 CUs, OEM-only, in a single pre-built PC.

They are disabling 50% of the Navi 44 die to make these, so it is a waste of silicon by any stretch of the imagination.

@revelator The really sad part is that if it dropped to around $220 or less, it might be good price/performance in the US market. It looks like an RX 6600 with newer features and better raytracing. But of course, it's not available in the US or Europe right now.

The 4 GB card isn't relevant right now. You could see it as an OEM's hedge against extreme memory pricing forcing even a GDDR6 death spiral.

AMD went with the worst of all worlds by not making it a 75W card, just slightly above that at 92W, and wrecking the die. Just a measly 24 compute units would have made a much more compelling product.

Oh well, on to RDNA5. Here's some hype for that:

They are supposedly going to be using chiplets again, although only 1 GCD in anything consumer-related AFAIK.

The big leak several months ago is that some mobile APUs could share a chiplet with low-end discrete GPUs, using LPDDR5X in both cases. Also, Xbox Helix should be sharing a chiplet with mid/high discrete.
