[SOLVED]Serious issue with new graphics card

Hi guys.

I recently bought myself a new graphics card, a msi radeon r9 390 gaming 8G. The problem is that once I've installed a graphics driver, it turns out the cooling vents of the graphics card.

This seems to be a know issue and amd has released a hotfix for it, but I can't install it. Everytime I try it tells me that it does not recognize the driver and aborts the install process. I've tried several drivers now and all of them do the same.

If I don't have a driver installed, the vents keep turning but I can't play any games, and I've don't paid 300 bucks to browse the internet.

I hope anyone here has any idea on how to solve the issue.

Thanks in advance.

I am able to overwrite the fan settings using msi afterburner, so the fans are working properly now. Still it doesn't work properly.

When launching thief 4 and starting the benchmark, my screen turns black and my pc reboots. The same happens if I try a stress test using FurMark. From the afterburner panel I read that the gpu temperature is around 40 degrees when this happens, so I fairly doupt it is overheating. I really have no clue what is going on here.

What GFX card did you have previously..? did you full clean out any driver remnants after uninstalling said driver..?

My tool of choice is DriverSweeper -

  1. uninstall the driver and reboot
  2. run DriverSweeper uninstall both the recenet AMD drive as well as the previous driver (if it was an older version or nVidia) and reboot
  3. install the latest driver for your R9 390 and reboot
  4. Then make sure the fan speeds are set the way you prefer in the catalyst control panel.

On a different note, how new is the card could you send it back and get a refund? Im saying this because the Rx 480 will be out any time now and depending on which version you get will be a tad-to-much faster than the vanilla 390. but will be far cheaper!, the UK price is estimated at £161 which for a card thats as fast as a GTX970 thats amazing!

Got the problem sorted. The issue was a lack of energy using both 8-pin and 6-pin from the same chain or however it is called. Using a 4-pin with a 4-to-6-pin adapter solved the issue.

Regarding the driver It's a fresh windows install on a newly bought ssd, no other drives. So no old driver fragments. The fan issue is well known and a bug in the amd drivers. But as said, I can override the settings usin msi afterburner which works grand thus far. So I consider this problem solved.

But thanks for the response anyways. :)

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
