Cube Map issue

Hey,

I'm trying to make a cube map, and the images from envshot <filename> size (512) are always coming up mostly black. Why is that?

There are two envshot methods.

Regular envshot produces images with _up, _down, etc per the cubemap wiki. You need to use cameraCubeMap for these. You need to be at 640x480 to collect the images.

The new envshotGL in SVN/2.05 (and the cubicLight beta) has the old _nx, px, etc naming conventions and orientations. These are used

for shader development but also can be used for some reflection effects where texgen reflect is called. Still need to be at 640x480.

The regular envshot in 2.04 should work for that.

If you want it to look like a reflection, then take the screen envshot outside facing the window and use

cameraCubeMap /env/root_name_of_images

texgen reflect

in your material.

If you want to simulate the interior (interior mapping) of a room, go into the room and face the window

when you collect the envshot and use cameraCubeMap and texgen reflect as above.

I'm actually trying to make a floor panel look 3 dimensional. I had it set to 640 x 400, but most images just came out black or partial black, and were not usable.

The envshot command is designed to collect the environment. To make your scenario works, you will need to enlarge your tile to gigantic proportions

then collected your envshot from inside the tile and finally shrink the result with scale args. I wonder if setting an alternate FOV might be used to do

this instead of needing the giant version of the tile? Or, since you are using cameraCubeMap, just make custom versions of the texture images that represent

the up\down\left\right\forward\backward views you want to represent as the interior, they should all be flat anyway.

I already made a giant version of the tile, and envshot it from inside the tile, with the floor surface above me. I think I have it sorted now, I'm

getting good pics, now I have to learn how to use it.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
