Good idea!

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

So I assume the newest 3ds Max tools don't work with the plugin?

Biker- Thanks and sure thing! I'll update this thread as it grows.

Toni- The .ase exporter is native to max, so that should work on newer editions. I'm still trying to get a .md5 exporter working. It looks like beserker's md5 script works with some minor caveats and should work with newer versions of max. I'll update the thread once I've fiddled with it a little more.

This should be copied into a wiki page too.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Modeling stuff for Blender. These will work on Blender 2.7. Newer version compatibility has not been tested.

Arcturus made a blender rig file for male and female AI:

http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/14970-blender-rig-for-standard-male-npc/

It works, and I've been using it in my animation activities. Exporting with ARX:EOS md5 exporter is possible. Everything seems to work, but the animation file sizes sre slightly larger than with other exporters. Be careful though, some other blender md5 exporters bork the AI bounding box which causes weird shadow clipping. The Arx exporter works fine. Link:

I made a very short instruction guide here:

I have a problem: When I click on a link under the blender topic in the OP, I just get either rerouted to this same page or to the start page of the forum.

The 3DSMax, Maya and the original Bleder links work, but the last three links do not. Could someone please check if it just happens for me or other people as well?

Thanks! I needed the md5exporter. I hope it really also works for Blender 2.78. I had to restore my PC recently (of course, my restore point was quite old) and have no idea, which version(s) I had before...

Hey, this thread is a good idea !

I've just tried to import a simple .ASE file in Dark Radiant with 3ds max 2017 and it works as you described for 3ds max 2013 64 bits. Just change the *BITMAP line and you're good.

ASE files can also be exported from older blender versions. I tried to make these plugins work with 2.70 but it failed so you might want to install an older version of blender dedicated to .ASE exports.

Not future, it's the present already. Just from the forum members alone, @Epifire and I have been using Substance tools for a year or two. It's very helpful and very affordable, even for hobbyists.

I've recently searched the internet with the aim of finding importers and exporters for all model formats used by TDM, both for older and newer versions of Blender and any other common modelling apps. Here's the result:

As a precaution I've made a backup of these importers and exporters on TDM's FTP server in case these links go dead. I won't provide download links to them here so we don't compete with the authors' links, but if at some point in the future someone isn't able to model something for TDM because the right import/export scripts don't exist anymore they can contact a team member. If the original authors want their work removed from this backup they can post here, send a PM to a team member or write an email to the address found at the bottom of this page: https://www.thedarkmod.com/team/

Im not sure if im comfortable using anything made by or linked to Epic/Tencent.

While the models maybe free to uses, what does the lic. say being distributed as part of a project like ours..?

What they wrote in FAQ seem pretty permissive to me. Mostly heads would be useful I think, as they would be easier to port than the whole body.

  • Thanks 1

It's only a model...

(I just write this down, because it's on my mind)
I think it's time somebody makes the city hub fm 😉
Technically I see 2 possible ways.
      1. One is where everything takes place inside one mission and you teleport to different enclosed areas of the map to do subquests.
      2. Another is a campaign style mission. You start inside the cityhub. When you do a subquest, the mission ends, but the next mission you load the specific quest-map. This questmap you load is depended on what subquest you choose to start inside the map. Afterwards you load the 3th mission in the campaign which will be the cityhub map again, but via persistant info, changes some things inside the map (for example, you can't do the same subquest twice) and you have more gold maybe, etc, etc. So if the cityhub has 5 subquest missions that can be played in any order, the total amount of missions in the campaign would be 10, but the amount of map files 6. Because if you start in the cityhub map, after each subquest mission, you return to the cityhub map again, except for the last mission. When you make missions later you can add them to the cityhub again and make it bigger.
(This seems all possible with changes made in TDM 2.13 , but I'm not 100% sure. It's at least an interesting project to work on)

I started using Unexpected Keyboard for Android phone.
It's pretty cool, because it has an actual Ctrl key, which you can use to do cut, copy and paste actions via x, c and v. pretty handy in the forums, to move quoted text around for example.

Dammit there are too many missions available now. That's what I get for being away for so long. Such a first-world problem.

The best thing about not mapping more than like every other year is the awesome feeling to see how far TDM has gotten in all appartments. I can just create some parallaxing cobblestones and walk to and fro and just let the jaw drop
