a list of basic questions

1) How to enable English subtitles ?

I am a bit hard of hearing and was hoping I could have the subtitles also which seem useful while the conversations takes place.

2) Any method to auto-save for every 15 min as we play ?

Sometimes I get pulled too deeply into the game and end up forgetting to save. Its my mistake but was hoping there would be a method to auto-save.

3) Where are the save game files located ?

I may have to delete the game folder and re-download the full game, especially as I ended up deleting the Darkmod.cfg and now the game's video and audio are not working properly. It happened while I was searching for the save game files which I prefer keeping a backup of.

1. As far as I know, there are no subtitles. They would have to be made by the respective fan mission author (for text other than the regular mumbling of AIs) and this is too much effort for most authors.

2. I have no idea how to do that

3. TDM creates a savegames folder in the respective FM-folder (e.g \The Dark Mod\fms\saintlucia)

1. I think it's rare that game-important information is given in a spoken conversation anyway, since it's easy to miss even if the player's hearing is good. Usually they're just for flavor or humor or story, but info important for the gameplay is put in readables. It's good you brought it up though. You're effectively making a request that somebody work on subtitling them.

2. The game doesn't have an auto-save feature. If you really really want it, it's something that you (or anybody willing to) can probably code with a simple persistent script that's in a loop which just triggers the quick save button then waits like 10 minutes and loops to do it again. Then you just pop that script into the root folder so it runs for every FM. Then test it to work out any kinks. My guess is it's easy, but I don't know for sure without testing it. (Of course then you can't control it quick saving in a dangerous situation which kills the usefulness of your quick save, but that's just a risk of the method and maybe it's worth the risk for you.)

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I think he wan unaware if such a feature exists or not. No pressure.

Likewise as people find ad-hoc, that bodies can be picked up and not just dragged. Because picking up bodies was so quintessential for the Thief games, in the mechanics of how things worked anyway.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

There is no auto-save in-game for now, but there is a Quick Save button that can be conveniently set up through the settings. The original Thief games never had autosave. For the most part, many FM's are quite short, so probably the necessity never had arisen. Quick saves and Quick load go a long way once you get used to them.

Regarding the autosave: it is possible to save the game via script. So one would have to add a function to one of the scripts that are active in every mission to exactly do that. The only thing I can think of which gets used in every FM and was never altered as far as I know is the player script object.

It might be easier however to use some sort of an egg timer to remind yourself to press the quicksave button ;)

Crinkelite and freyk just helped me with this a few days ago : the file is auto generated with default settings if it is not found on startup.

Delete or rename it and launch the program as normal.

Yeah tried to delete it and relaunch. As i stated earlier the video and audio did not work properly because it got deleted, after it was deleted, I launched it and the file got downloaded, but now the screen resolution is not working and had to restart my system 2 times to make the screen resolution go back to normal.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
