Updating missions on the FM page

Afternoon

I have been having issues with this of late, recently I updated Dragofer mission to version 3.0 -

  1. I uploaded the updated file to river.pk4 (it was river3.pk4)
  2. I then changed the version number on the FM page from 2. to 3.

The issue Dragofer is now having is he is seeing two version's of the FM in the in-game list.

On a TDM where DbtR isn't already installed ...

I only see one version on the in-game download screen, dated Sept 25 2016. When I select "More", it says it's version 3.

When I download it in-game, it describes itself as version 3.

There's no version number on the load screen.

Once I start the mission, missions.tdminfo has this entry in it:

tdm_missioninfo river
{
"downloaded_version" "3"
"last_play_date" "2016-10-26"
}

On a TDM where DbtR v1 is already installed, and I've played it, missions.tdminfo has this entry in it:

tdm_missioninfo river
{
"downloaded_version" "1"
"last_play_date" "2016-10-26"
}

So, on my system, everything's working as expected.

It makes sense to me now. Here are the names which the .pk4s had when I downloaded them ingame, in chronological order:

- river

- river1_1: downloading this update resulted in two copies of the mission

- river2 (v2)

- river: should've been v3, but oddly it was identical to v2

- river (v3)

It worked fine for grayman because he updated from river to river. But I started from river2 and tried to update to river, so I ended up with two folders in my fms directory.

It'd be helpful to have a section in the wiki somewhere on how to update a mission. This is what looks to be the procedure:

1. The mapper changes the version number in darkmod.txt

2. Bikerdude changes the version number in the FM page.

For the record, it can also be done by changing the name of the .pk4: I can trigger an update if I rename alberic4 to alberic3. While changing darkmod.txt only had an effect on the mission description.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
