Why is DR 2.1.0 trying to acess the internet..?

Recommended Posts

I just caught DR trying to access the net, I cant imagine this is something it needs to nor that Greebo codded it. So I have to assume a tool Greebo used when compiling DR is sneakily trying to access the web. The only thing of note that I have done recently is allowed Discord to know I am using while chatting via its local client - so I am wondering if that is somehow trying to request next access through DR....?

The IP address comes up as Cloudflare, would would DR be trying to call home to Cloudflare over a port 443....?

No, DarkRadiant definitely isn't instructed to connect to the net, not even checking for updates. It's not in the source code, so my guess is that some other DLL is loaded alongside the process and this DLL is trying to connect to whatever that site is (I don't know what it does, one could intercept it with a network monitor). Usually these DLLs are hooked into mouse drivers, antivirus tools or other operating system stuff, that's why DarkRadiant can't prevent these things from getting loaded.

In the meantime, users who have a copy of VS2015 Update 2 and wish to turn off the telemetry functionality currently being compiled into their code should add “notelemetry.obj” to their linker command line. (This fix was confirmed by Carroll.)

@Kano - nice find! I suspected as much.

@Greebo, want me to create a bug-tracker for this..?

It doesn't have be mandatory for everyone, even if it wasn't intended to work this way. Some people willingfully turn on telemetry.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
