How Do You Make Russian Text Register In Notepad?

Does anyone know how to make Russian text register in Notepad and other programs? I'm currently planning to translate some new text I've implemented into Alekhine's Gun, and viewing Cyrillic text in Notepad and other programs registers as gibberish. For example:

Óäîñòîâåðèòüñÿ ÷òî ïðåäàòåëü ïåðåäàë äîêóìåíòû

I want to know exactly what I'm looking for before searching for it, because I don't want to risk infecting my computer with malware again. I know at least two people who will help me translate things, I'm just looking for a Russian language pack or something that will help me register Russian text. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

The tabbed interface and the ability to use Ctrl+Z more than once alone make it worth the download. Make the switch today.

In Notepad++, you can switch the encoding by using the Encoding menu, or you can change the default to UTF-8 by going to Settings → Preferences → New Document. If this somehow doesn't work, we can troubleshoot it.

Don't forget to change the theme. I use "Deep Black".

If you're using Windows in English it may be part of the problem. That you don't have russian downloaded as a russian pack and it doesn't recogonize it.

If using standard Notepad you can just download the Windows OS in russian and view it there. There also may be differences in how russian may read in notepad versus different versions of Microsoft Word.

The Windows OS doesn't allow downloading new language packs though if you have a simpler version. Not sure exactly which ones qualify but you can figure out quickly if you change the OS language or not. If that's even an option.

I think it's better to use save the file somewhere online on cloud for safety purposes. Sometimes different languages can get messed up on internal HDD over time in Notepad. Moreover personally I use Word 2003 since forever. Never looked back. Don't fix what isn't broken (except that white theme, good riddance of that in Windows 10).

I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

It might be just a problem inherent to Notepad. I don't find it very realiable for serious notes.

It's not just Notepad, it's with every program. The in-game Russian text in Alekhine's Gun is fine, but viewing them through the files only brings up gibberish. And with Alekhine's Gun, the only program I have to use to add new subtitles is the ShadScript tool, everything else just screws up the file in question.

Unless you've already done this, going to the Region and Language, third tab (Keyboards and Language) window in your Control Panel will allow you to assign a cyrillic layout for your keyboard so you can type in cyrillic if your editing needs it. As far as Notepad, it displays cyrillic just fine but I've also encountered what you have. It must be just the files being saved in a bad encoding format. I second the advice to try N++ and check the different encoding options. You may also have some success if you, on the same window I mentioned, go to the Administrative tab and change your system locale to Russia or another cyrillic-using country.

I'm one step ahead of you. After some investigating, I've set the Administrative tab to Russian and now I can properly view Cyrillic text in the ShadScript tool. Thanks for your suggestions.

I just want to say that it is the ANSI 8-bit codepage issue.

The system can only map one locale at a time against it and you need to switch between Western, Cyrillic, etc when you have to work with each.

AFAIR MS Word gives you an option to convert from any 8-bit codepage when opening a txt file.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
