Steam Greenlight: TDM is ranked #1 atm.

Is that just #1 of the current applicants? Or does it include games already on Greenlight?

There is no Steam status prior to Greenlight. Greenlight is "we want to be on Steam" thus if a game is "on Greenlight" it is "applying to be on Steam".

We are number 1 amongst the games who are currently "on Greenlight" who are "trying to get onto Steam".

To give a sense of scale, the stat page biker posted says we're #1 of 2875 games on Greenlight.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Sadly, winning the popular vote doesn't always mean you get what you want...

But that is very cool nonetheless! I hope we make it in before they cut the program.

Going around steams curators pages it looks like a lot of game makers lobby the curators to get them to play/recommend their games to be greenlit, with links to their greenlight page, I think the curators are as much in the dark as who is in the top 100 as everyone else is and unless you tell them directly on their comment page they don't really have a clue as to what game is on the list and where.

Rank #1 is pretty impressive, especially considering that everyone and his cow are going Greenlight with their games now, obviously because Steam has announced that they want to raise the cash threshold to get a game Greenlit.

a lot of those greenlit games are asset flips passed by dodgy curators who took stuff like doritos or cash in exchange to pass it off as a original game but not that original or a playable game, apparently one of the reasons valve is removing greenlight, there's some 33,000+ curators, a lot of those greenlit games don't even work and end up stuck in green lit limbo forever.

there are free to play games on steam, I played one, it was naff, and it didn't make any sense, as it was made up of disjointed scene's that didn't go together.

What are the latest stats on TDM if I can ask?

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

I suspect the fact that TDM is free is why it is taking so long - no percentage for valve in it.

There are enough free games on Steam. The pure fact that developers release at Steam is advertising for them, because people are surely more affectionated to browse, and buy stuff at Steam then.

The coolest move with free games was with GOG though. From the very start you get all the free games you can get without having to browse through all of the ones on the store.

It feels much more inviting and friendly. Which is an experience more alienating vis-a-vis Steam.

GOG isn't as friendly for us as Steam as a release platform though, or hasn't been yet. Just the way things go.

Alien Swarm was made by Black Cat Games, part of our extended family if you didn't know. They were Thief fans that made the Thievery multiplayer mod of Unreal (multiplayer Thief basically), then got hired by Valve and made Alien Swarm. Their forum is still attached to TTLG, and in the early days we were sometimes compared to them, or anyway Darkmod was compared with Thievery.

apparently there are some ways to get through greenlight quick, either know someone who works for valve, like someone who was at black cat games who got hired by valve and that you know that can vouch for said greenlight game, the game to have VR capability, join one of the more dodgy groups on steam that have more than 150 curators in the group but you have to pay that group 50% of the money the game would make, join a game publisher that also has a group on steam. The last two are probably out as the game is free 2 play.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
