Hey,

I did this awhile back, saved one of them out as a module so they could be added together to make

a row of them. I did a lot of stuff like this back in the quake days, but of course couldn't be used

in that game, however they were all oversized, fortunately GTKRadiant can perfectly

resize brushes and patches without errors. :D

 

I made this when the first Harry Potter came out and tried to make Hogwarts in quake, didn't really work, but

the map still looks good.

Oh I see what you mean, not sure that would work that well with the texture used on the pillars. You mean make the arches out

of the same texture as the pillars. I felt it needed to be different.

What Judith said. The pillars should be at least size of a man, preferrably taller. That makes the arches easier to monsterclip too, because you just need to monsterclip the pillar and the arch-work is above the AI you do need to think about it in terms of AI pathing.

It's a good idea, but the scale feels off. Since it's a gothic architecture, the columns alone should be like 96 or 128. Right now it looks like you can barely go under those arches.

That's not a problem, I can fix that in few minutes. I reduced this from the original by 40%, as the original was way out of scale. Here's

a rescale of it, only takes a minute to rescale in GTK Radiant. In Dark Radiant it takes much much longer, as XY & Z can't be all changed

in one step. You have to scale X, then Y then Z and that turns the object into a mess. Being able scale all XYZ in one go means

you can do perfect rescales.

 

As for MC, that's easy too with something like this. Since you only need to clip those things that are an AI can reach. :)

That is really nice BD. Originally, mine was to be used to open border a courtyard of a monestary. So I never gave

a thought to them as windows.

 

I like it. I have a heap of prefabs I've done, eventually when I think they are good enough quality, I'll upload them for

the community. I want to learn modelling so I can make some nice furniture.

It looks good, although columns have those horizontal splits that don't contribute to their shape at all, since they're all straight. The same goes for arches' shape: until you give them a diffuse/normal that shows that shape, it won't be visible in the ambient light (your image image in lower left corner shows it best IMO).

I can see all the images on the thread, are you sure your not blocking any cookies..?

 

Wierd. No I'm not. I've not changed any of my settings, but from today I don't see images anymore. I'm glad

others can though. So that's good.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
