Thief 2 - Death’s Cold Embrace

How does this compare to the likes of T2X, CoSaS, Hammerite Imperium, etc.?

It's a 10+ mission campaign with a decade of work in it. So I'd say comparable scale.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I've heard good things about DCE. Might try it once I finish other TMA FMs I'm currently playing.

I've been playing through this, about half-way and far out it's impressive. Sure it's over a decade in the works but every aspect of this has been so enjoyable to playthrough.

I love how you keep revisiting the same city but experiencing different sections of it throughout the campaign, a unique feeling and still very thief-esque.

Is that statue from the thumbnail actually in the mission?

I'm sure it is. There are a number of higher poly models I was thinking to skimp for a TDM FM.

I liked the bed I saw in the screenshots also.

Since there are no poly limits with NewDark, there have been some great models popping up in FMs.

(I don't think they have normal maps, definitely not specular, etc., but that's not the worst.)

The reason I ask is because the screenshot section appears to show the same courtyard without that statue. And there is a church shot with statues that are WAY lower poly than the one in the thumbnail.

It is good. Consistently high-quality, with mostly sensible puzzles and good sneaking. Just a solid mission pack so far.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Yes it's there, and it's pretty smooth looking.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

If it's up for grabs, we should definitely add it to our statues, which are woefully lacking.

If it did originate with EoS then it looks as though TDM has permission to use it: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/11604-arx-end-of-sun/?do=findComment&comment=227921

DCE's readme has a list of sources but (understandably) no detail about who made which models.

Some things I'm repeatedly thinking about...

- louder scream when you're dying

Looks good , but is it an undead type mission , never did take to them.Found Down in the Bonehoard tedious to play.

So far, these have all been humanocentric missions.

There's a guy that dresses like a zombie and moans to scare people lol, like a scooby doo episode.

First mission was great. The endgame was terrifying.

The plot also had some interesting parallels to my own FM, with the inventor.

I fired up my old Thief 2 disc etc , and it is indeed nice to play ,but with the usual proviso of guards being a lot easier to put of of action so I've kept doing that to a minimum.

Suffering my usual pathetic Thief solving problems , unable to find the key to Miller's apartment to tackle the key objective.Guess it is on his body , but where is that I wonder!

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
