SVN access request

R Soul

Recommended Posts

Hello. I sent a PM to taaaki asking for access to the SVN*, but I don't know when he'll next check his messages (last activity was 8 days ago). It's only been a couple of hours but if someone else here could set up an account for me, that would be appreciated. If not, I'll wait.

* My reason for requesting access is that I'd like to get the texture source files so I can make my own variations.

It generally hasn't been our habit to give SVN access to non team-members.

You can already access any texture files that have already been released--you don't need SVN access for that.

That wiki page is about ten years old, and most of those repositories don't exist anymore. If you're talking about darkmod_hires, it might still exist, but if so it certainly hasn't been updated in years.

Okay. In that case, are the texture source files available anywhere?

Probably with the original authors, unfortunately. What textures did you have in mind?

If taaaki can set you up with access to darkmod_hires, great, although my guess is that you'll mostly find the original .tgas of textures we used before switching to .dds some time in year four of development. Textures newer than that would be rare.

I wouldn't let lack of hi-res textures hold you back--I've made alternate versions using .dds originals, and while it's not ideal I doubt anyone noticed the slight loss of quality.

I can't help with tracking down the original texture source files but for all of my dds compression usage I use TheCompressonator and there is an option in the menu to save the original image (even with just opening up dds files).

I don't really think the program is able to uncompress an image but i've never tested it so maybe there is some black magic going on.

But I see an option in the menu that looks like this if I open up any dds file:

For me, all the original TGA/PNG images are on my computer, they are not on SVN. SVN is not a repository for all our work, that's what our hard drives are for.

Once textures are completed they are uploaded to SVN, which means DDS and jpg.

If there's a specific textures or set of textures you're interested in, you could post in this forum asking about them and hopefully the original author still has the high-res source files.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

You cannot receive PMs. Could you please be so kind and check your mailbox if it is full (or maybe you switched off the function)?
