Bugs that make you smile

Bugs can definitely be frustrating. But Dragofer's comment about the AI dying as he tried to walk the plank got me thinking about funny bugs, and I just had one.

I placed a mine in a doorway because I thought an AI was coming in, but they turned around and didn't come any further. "No problem" I thought, I'll just deactivate the mine and put it somewhere else.

So I lockpicked the mine and deactivated it. Then I frobbed it in an attempt to pick it up. It made the sound like it was going into my inventory, but then I saw a dark shape swoop over my head. I looked up, and a mine, spinning like a tasmanian pinwheel, landed on top of me. I had just enough time to recognize what it was and attempt to grab it before it exploded and turned my head into a red mist.

What funny bugs have you experienced lately?

This was a while back, not recently.

I'm playing NAOG and I think I'm staying at the inn but sabotaging the place or something.
I end up alerting an old dude in green? somehow.
Cut to much later and I'm coming up from the basement and into the bar.
I head over to get out the door at the opposite end and there's this same old guy.
He's stuck diagonally in the doorway and sitting in the air like a goofball blocking me.
While I'm trying to jump over him out the door, he says something that I can't remember.
It's like "We'll trap this rogue yet". Of course, it would be funnier if I knew the line.
Nonetheless, it amused the hell out of me, because he did trap the rogue (me) without even knowing it by jamming up the door.
Plus, you know, he was just sitting in the air in the door with me trying to climb over his lap.

The best bug I remember is when a revenant fell through a hole while he was running to a lower level where the player was, which was full of water like the top of a flooded cave, and he clipped into the ceiling and kept running. Visually it looked like he was running hovering over the water, and still managed to run to me to my little island and bash me to death. I had to laugh and shake my head. I took a screenshot of it that's around here somewhere too.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Not so much as a bug but rather a funny coincidence. I knocked out a guard in my WIP and he landed like this, gave me a good chuckle seeing him stuck in in the exorcist pose

One time I was sparring on the training mission. One of the guards got all stretched out around the waste. Thing is though, he continued to fight me as though nothing was wrong. Never laughed so hard. Another favorite of mine is when you blackjack a sleeping AI and they partially clip into the bed. Then they start violently flopping around and usually die a minute or so later.

There was one AI in the early days that didn't have the AF file or something like that (the brute, the main bad guy in my FM), so when you KO'd him he'd start flipping in a kind of surreal slow motion spin hovering along the ground. I don't know if it's exactly the same effect, but similar anyway. It was the most amazing thing I'd seen, and I actually want to use the effect in an FM for a special kind of AI it was so cool. I'll have to see if it's possible to hack it in with a custom AI without the AF file.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I must one up Goldwell. This is actually the oldest screenshot I have in my folder, from 2015:

And for an actual bug, here's the second oldest screenshot I've kept, from 2016:

The rats were both alive, which made their jenga tower formation incredibly impressive, as they kept balance perfectly as they walked around.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
