perki 4
No particular order: Tomb Raider I-III The Longest JourneyGrim Fandango Thief Gold & 2DishonoredAmerican Mcgee's Alice I'm sure there are tons more, but those stick out. Didn't play Thief games and Dishonored until years (a decade or more?) later. Glad I finally did, but I do remember the Thief ads back in 1998 when I was a big Tomb Raider fan. Played a lot of games on the consoles too.
wanderer 2
The original DOOM and what made it different from modern FPS games were the mazes. I used to never save. I'd come out crawling from the wreckage or retreating with monsters chasing me to go looking for ammo and health that I had left behind. Remembering where I had left stuff was part of the game. Modern FPS games trap you in a little room and there is no going back. Even if you survive the room, but you don't survive with enough health and ammo to face the next room, you have to reload. It gets repetitive. That's one of the things I like about TDM. It brings back the maze aspect of the game.
chakkman 382
That's sort of what i hated about the new Wolfensteins. You sneak through ventilation shafts, and kill soldiers silently, just to end up in a room after a cut scene, having to shoot from all barrels, with a seemingly never ending stream of enemies spawning. Return to Castle Wolfenstein at least halfway let you play your way. The modern action games force you to play the way the developers intended.
