Missions for good performance?

I'm stuck with a craptop, and can't run everything, I allready looked up the wiki page about performance so please don't spam it in this thread. Missions like st. lucia run ok with some fps drops sometimes in the outside areas but it's playable since most of the tension is inside. Not looking for much detail but it would be cool if the creator somehow still managed to make it look pretty.

Naturally, older missions would have less details in them, if there is a way to sort FMs by release date (either on the wiki page or on the website's mission page) that might help. It's harder to pull up missions with good performance from memory, much easier to do for missions with bad perf, lol. Um, I guess Spoonman's levels? I've noticed that all of his builds are quite elaborate but all built out of relatively simple brushwork, so I think you'll have luck with running his FMs. They're fun to boot, as well. Fullmoon Fever can get choppy outside, but I think both The Ravine and KotM are good.

Here you go, start at the bottom: http://www.thedarkmod.com/missions/?sort=releasedate

I think there's a few missions which got updated or partly rebuilt for newer TDM versions, thus will use more CPU than the original releases. Tears of St. Lucia is such a case, if i'm not mistaken.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

nope, just looks worse and didn't change anysthing performance wise

Also the image downsize can be set to a lower minimum.

It helps performance proportionally to the lower image downsize number.

I would try the following: Start at the bottom of the list linket by chakkman.

After each mission's first start, play until reaching an open area or window to an open area and turn your head - if it is too laggy, continue with next mission - else continue playing the current mission.

No matter how lousy your hardware is - there probably are missions wich will run just fine (around 30 FPS) without reducing texture size. In a few you might even be able to use soft shadows for a significant immersion boost.

In general, old mansion missions or dungeon crawls without or with a mostly unlit exterior should be fine.

Also, try to extinguish lights, keep doors and windows closed and blackjack or kill all AI to improve performance.

Surely there must be people here with spare PC bits they don't need any more? I just tossed all my old parts. Maybe we could drum up enough

for him to build a PC. I have a 15 inch monitor I don't need I'd be willing to send somewhere.

I have an eclectic YouTube channel making videos on a variety of games. Come and have look here:

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
